Not sure where to put this, .

I was going to adapt a real generic set of rules for my boys so they can play 40k. The reason for this is that my oldest son (who is 10) is painting legos and wants space marines for christmas. They live in CA and i live in KS, so i am going to try to do this at a distance. My ex makes things real hard to communicate with them much even via internet/skype.

I am going to get him some figures and paints to have fun painting/hobby side, but I also want to make up a "cheat" sheet of rules that they can use for fighting lets say a tactical squad against a tactical squad and be able to figure out things on the real generic side without using rule book and having me around as well as be able to explain something to them with them understanding it.

My idea was cheat sheet with generic sheet for youngsters to understand. My boys are smart but i dont think they might comprehend rules with out me there, so i need to make it streamlined and fun for them.

Is there any rules like that that peole have made already for their kids, or should i proceed to make some for my boys? Also any ideas?

Thanks in advance .

They are made for last edition but GW has a free quick reference sheet that is pretty easy to follow and basic as since it is mostly just fundamentals

You may need to clarify some things to the kids like 'rolling to hit' and how it correlates to the particular models but imo think it would help a bit at the very least.

Use notecards! that's what I did for helping people learn the game. Basic stuff on the front (movement, leadership, vehicle table), and the CC to hit and to Wound on the back. Then had a separate card for Marines, with Stats and Weapon Profiles. We had great success, it makes it so easy to use, i.e. "Space marine has str 4 and Eldar guardian has toughness of 3, and find the number"

WAAAGH!!!

Thanks guys! I got them the DV box set so they can choose DA or Chaos and build and paint the models...i will help them with that first via long distance skype ... will be an adventure especially getting my ex to get them on Skype so i can maybe teach them and see what they are doing etc. Gives me some time though to put some generic rules together for them that they can play with their models though .

Spacewolf,

The Dark Vengeance kit comes with a mini-book that contains mission types and an abridged prose form of basic rules. This book is pretty basic and I think it is a great way for two players to get in a basic game at home on the kitchen table.

It also contains the main 40k rulebook and over 40 models, ~20 of which are Space Marines (Dark Angels). The models are also snap-fit and do not require glue. It's also generally understood that Dark Vengeance is one of the best values or bang for your buck in the 40k world. You can pay up to $60 for 5 miniatures, but Dark Vengeance costs $100 and contains 48 models.
