So I was at a 40K retailer the other day and I saw this : http://wargamesfactory.com/webstore/alien-suns/shock-troops-sci-fi-greatcoat-troopers
These guys looks super awesome and their super cheap as well (compared to GW). 18 models, multi part/multi posed, and only 20ish dollars.
I mean goddamn for IG 10 cadians is like 48(20 would be 96), for CSM 5 cultist is 14 (20 would be 56) and dont get me started on forgeworld renegades.

Anyway thats beside the point, I was ranting a bit there. I'm think of getting 2 boxes of these guys (56 gits) and turning them into cultist. I have a bunch of unused loyalist space marine backpacks so I'm planning on giving them a Vraksian Renegade look by getting guitar wire as tubes and attaching them onto the packs. I'll also probably modify their guns abit, some spikes here, some filing there and some battle damage everywhere, Lastly I'd tatter up their cloaks with a solder and some sharp tools.

http://www.chaos-arts.com/2011/11/finished-blood-pact-infantry-and-tank.html I found a guy who turned them into blood pact and I think my army will resemble these guys somewhat.

So yeah, any thoughts?

People here are very well acquainted with WGF shock troops

with very mixed opinions on them

So if you like them, then they're a good deal

Though I think they look x10 better with gw lasguns, but thats just me

I would agree with the lasguns.

Current Armies: Chaos Space Marines(Building), Orks(Completed), Vanilla Marines(Near Completion), Trollbloods(Completed), Axony (Building)

You can find the GW cultist on ebay for about 10 for $15. Also, they are superior miniatures. Don't get me wrong, I love the WG factory kits but compared to the Cultists they are dorky, and you do get what you pay for.

Also... I LOVE WG factory helmets on WG helmets on GW figs if you feel like doing head swap, you can just buy the helmets separate for cheap. Oh, and it's true that GW lasguns look awesome on WG factory figs as well. It completes it with a WWII look that the WG factory figs are just shy of.

WG factory figs are better for large armies... use them as is with a bit of spiky bits attached, and their static poses means it's cool for you to duplicate similar poses. the GW ones have better more dynamic poses, better detail and cooler design, but you get a lot of doubles when you scale it up and that looks dumb.

I'm a fan of the WGF kits, I spent a lot of time on their boards arguing the merits of different designs and while I'm far from 100% happy with the final results I consider them better than the Cadians or Catachans, especially in modeling potential and options.

Not fair to compare them to the cultists as the cultists are monopose figures.

The kits come with enough heads to do gas masks, welding masks or mutant/respirator heads for all 3 bodies on the sprue with a sergeant, a cyborg and a squid head to spare.

These will be my penal legion (WGF with GW parts as well) if/when I get back to them.

I am also a fan of the WGF greatcoats and use them as vets. I agree that the lasguns look better on them to make them WYSIWYG.

more options, with the guns and heads, but not better ones. the cadian torsos and legs are better because they are separate... the catachan kits just suck though.

At least their guns aren't as tall as the model itself and don't have the left hands molded onto the gun.

But yeah still waiting for the future infantry of my dreams...

Me, too. They're called Eisenkern, and Wargames Factory is making them for Dreamforge Games.

But, yeah, I can see the appeal of the greatcoats that WGF makes. Especially at that price point.

hah, yeah the guns are a bit big. Another good point why those lasguns go good on the WGF greatcoat bodies...

The scale is perfect mate, I've got seventy of them, all with cadian arm sets and they fit almost without any work. You'll love them! Also, take a look at the Pig Iron heads for even more awesomeness!

I do agree that the guns on those models do lack creativity, but I don't have any lasguns and ebay don't have 36 lasguns for sale. What I will do is maybe take the arm bitz off my orks and warriors of chaos and put them onto the shock troops to give them some identity.

true, it's killer getting those arms, you have to watch ebay for when they come up.

It's mostly the shoulderpads/arms that are the the dorkiest looking part though. the guns themselves aren't the worst, just a bit techy-looking for 40k.

Those models look pretty good, maybe I'll buy them to count as veterans.

What are the mixed opinions on them? Are there any issues with these models?

The guns they use ain't really lasgun-y, they don't come with clpse combat weapon arms, the shoulder pads are a bit bulky in comparison with normal imperial guards and the poses they do are all the same.
But some GS and creativity can solve all these problems so think about it. I plan on getting 56 tmr and turn them in CSM renegades/cultist.

I don't even KNOW anymore.

I happen to like them - enough to make a Traitor Guard army of them. Here's my first test guy from my gallery (sorry about the huge, sucky pic):

Those guys look great!!

When it boils right down to it, having duplicate poses in an army isnt really a big deal to me. I can use bits and pieces from other model kits to customise things.

The Eisenguard models from Dreamforge do look cool, and so far they look like they will be priced right

I think those guys will make really cool cultists!!

Agreed, they are meh with their stock weapons, but amazing with GW lasguns and backpacks, its actually what I'm doing right now for my traitor guard.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.
