Hypothetically, if the Orks and Tyranids were the only species in the universe, who'd be left standing?

Depends on how many Tyranids there are.
There could be an almost endless horde out in deep space or nothing at all, no one knows.

The Tick: Everybody was a baby once, Arthur. Oh, sure, maybe not today, or even yesterday. But once. Babies, chum: tiny, dimpled, fleshy mirrors of our us-ness, that we parents hurl into the future, like leathery footballs of hope. And you've got to get a good spiral on that baby, or evil will make an interception.

Old, cool fluff, where Orks were your rowdy next door neighbors who occasionally got worked up by a really powerful boss and wandered around wrecking stuff?

Tyranids.

New, lame, idiotic fluff where GW plays the One-Up Grimdark Game and Orks are never-ending and near-instantly replaceable fungus monsters?

Draw.

Whoever wins, we lost.

Tyranids would win because while both regenerate tyranids regenerate by stealing biomass while orks grow from fungus. The tyranids would keep stealing ork biomass when they win while the orks likely wouldn't steal the biomass when they beat the tyranids. Not to mention that orks fight between themselves and tyranids don't.

Actually, Orks aren't instantly replacing. They take about a month to gestate, and a few years to mature.

So yeah, Tyranids would annihalate.

What about Necrons vs. Tyranids?

Assuming the Tyranids aren't endless but just very very numerous, then my money would go on Orks as they have the ranged advantage and even if they are out numbered it will never be by much. After all, if Orks can survive and win against some of the armies that other races in 40k have thrown at them then I bet they could beat Tyranids, all be it at horrific casualties but oh well, more where they came from

Orks only fight amongst themselves when there are no worthy enemies to fight or if there Warboss doesn't like the other, in a war against nids I think a Warboss (or one worth his salt) wou;d be able to keep his boys in line

On the planet-transforming front, the Tyranids have the advantage. Both races can send an almost endless wave of creatures into the meat grinder, but unless the Tyrannoforming is interrupted eventually the planet is going to be drained of nutrients and the environment so toxic to the Orks that their spores can't sprout.

This is not to say that the Orks aren't sometimes capable of really creative campaign thinking, but on a global scale I think the unified and all-seeing Hive Mind has the edge.

Orks cause they are awesome, tyran a forming doesn't really hurt the ork reproductive abilities. And tyranids will fight each other if you take out the synaptic creatures.

Necrons would slaughter the nids. No point in arguing that

Now that just can't be true. Whether Orks grow like a fungus or like an animal, they need nutrition from the matter around them. Tyrannoforming slowly strips the planet of most useful elements; anything the Orks can use to reproduce you can be sure the Tyranid fleet will be able to use as well, and so will be on the list of things to be sucked up into space. Eventually, the process would drive the Orks into extinction on a given world. Given the saturation of the air with Tyranid spores, cells and microbes before this process completes, I imagine that the world would be purged of dormant Ork spores as well.

A Tyranid invasion is an attack on the biosphere as a whole and its ability to support life. The Orks have to stop that process, else it's game over in the long run.

That's all true except that if the war lasts long enough then the ork excrements will feed the spores and the dead will also allow the ork spores to feed and grow. Most of the world will lose their resources for life true, but the orks themselves will give rise to new orks, the orks themselves are all they need to make themselves a ecosystem where they can reproduce.
