I attended the Nova Open last August/September, my first big time tournament, and learned very quickly the importance of having lots of troops. Table quarters always seemed to be a deciding factor either as the primary, secondary or tertiary goal. It was easy to tie on the other goals most of the time and then I would loose to the table quarters - I ran Necrons with only three units of warriors...

So, in preparation for next years I read through the draft primer for 2013's tournament. Again three of the first six games have table quarters as one of their goals. With that in mind I'm thinking of developing a list that has a good chance of winning at the table quarter level and objective holding. I'm open to any and all armies and combos as I have 8 months to prep I could probably afford to grow a new army. Here's what I have sitting on a shelf at the moment:

Necrons - all of them and then some...
Grey Knights - same as above...
Space Wolves - 4 units of grey hunters, TWC, and NJal
Imperial Guard - 40 dudes, some heavy weapon squads, 3 chimeras, vendetta, hellhound, 2 collosus, 1 bassilisk and a manticore
Orks - 20 boys, Big Mek
Dark Eldar - three venoms, Raider, Ravenger and hellions

Well, each of your armies could serve you well and none of these armies will get a codex update soon. The most versatile armies are Necrons, SW, and IG so that I'd go with one of these.

Thanks. I'd be willing to consider armies I didn't list as well. I was actually looking hard at some of the hoard based armies like Tyranids, IG and Orks just because of the amount of troops they can put out there.

Choose a primary race that can take IG as allies and then a blob squad. Covers most issues you may have.

Well seeing as how the points are still up in the air, you're looking at most likely 1850 or 2000.

I personally have made it my mission to fill the board with bodies so I'll be taking 100+ Guardsmen, 2 Manticores and 3 Vendettas at 1850.

SW with Grey Hunters in Drop Pods backed up by fast cavalry and LF would be an option

It's at 1850 right now. I was seriously thinking SW with IG ally just because they're battle brothers and IG can spam troops. And of course SW has the best troop choice. I'm a little leery of that though because last year's tournament was won by SW/IG and that would just seem like copy catting....dunno...

Another option I'm considering are Tyranids...

Nid's would be fun, i have some of thouse laying around too, dude i think a SW list like wuestenfux said with colloses's backing them up, thats alot of "in Your Face" to deal with

and copy cattin isent a think unless ur pulling his list and useing it, and even then you still have to know how the list works, its not magic.

or is it
...

oh and sense they are not gonna let you use double force(unless it changes from last year) Nids are not as powerfull without double force(so i hear, i have run nids in 6th i admit i dont know but the genral consent seams to be 2k and up for nids for dual force.)
