I hope this is not the wrong discussion to ask about this... if I'm in the wrong place, forgive me!
Question: How do you know the value of your army? Is there a 'Points List' in the Codex? Obviously I'm asking because I don't have the Codex.... -_-

You cannot play this game without your codex. Ever.

Hmm... Thanks for that. The reason why I don't have a Codex is because I'm just getting in the hobby and I'm still focusing on the painting aspect.
Do I have to get a special Codex for the Dark Angels, or is there a generic Space Marines Codex?

Dark Angels have their own, although it's likely to be replaced in a few months.
You might want to buy the regular Space Marine codex for now and use those rules until the new DA book arrives.

There is a Codex: Dark Angels
than there is also a Codex: Space Marine.

Both the Space Marine and Dark Angels codices exist. If you're planning on running a Dark Angels army, I'd recommend that you wait a month or so, as their new codex is rumoured to be released in January.
But yes, all you'll need is the DA codex; you won't need the SM codex as well.
