I just got back from a gaming club where one of the spectators noticed that I split my ADL wall pieces up into 3 parts, with one long maze-like line with the quad gun, and 2 separate pieces providing cover save for my tanks. He then proceeded to tell me that I was breaking the rules by deploying my ADL in a non-contiguous line.

What's the call here? My interpretation is that it's all good as long as one section is connected to another section. But I'd like to see how the 40k community out there interprets it.

FAQ's for the win

Q: Can you deploy the Aegis Defence Line sections in two or more
groups of two or more sections apiece (this way, they will still be in
base contact with at least one other section)? (p114)
A: No – the Aegis defence line sections must be deployed in
an unbroken chain, though they can be connected end-toend
such as in the example shown on page 114.

If i remember the rulebook all aegis walls have to touch, but when i played a friend we agreed the walls could be set out by the defender, and destroyed by simply assaulting with somthing, then removing, in hindsight an addition of a consolidation move if no infantry or vehicles to assault.

yea they have to connect. You can make one long line, a circle, a curve, or an S shape but they must touch.

Personally i just use the circle since i have grots manning it and you cant see the grots

Well that's fine as a house rule, however nothing about that is RAW.

This. When the rulebook originally came out nothing prevented splitting the Aegis, as its original rules just say that each piece has to touch one other piece. But the FAQ changed it.
