Based on what you just said - being a beginner and wanting lots of help - play Warhammer 40K Space Marines.

Or, play what you think looks cool.

Depends how you like to play the game. If you're hellbent on being competitive, something like GK or BA will be best. Try to choose a forgiving army if you're a noob though (i.e. NOT DE).
I'd go for CSM. You can play it with tough models (Marines, cult troops, chosen etc.) or Cultists, and see whether you like a horde approach or a small, elite force without having to collect multiple armies. You can use psychic powers, go all out raging CC (Zerkers, Chosen etc) or get great guns (Noise Marines, Oblits etc.), and you can even get much tougher (Bikers, Plague Marines, Daemon Engines etc.). There is something for every preference in CSM, and I think it's a very good starting army. It was my choice, and I never regretted it.
And some very important advice for you: YOU NEED TO LIKE YOUR ARMY YOURSELF, OTHERWISE YOU WILL SPEND TIME, EFFORT AND MONEY ON SWITCHING TO A NEW ONE! So weigh the pros and cons of each army and decide yourself, not through a public vote.

40k

DA's are getting a new codex the first of january. Because they were in the starter set for the 6ht edition you can get a really cheap army to start with atm.

Fluff reasons; They have some on the most awesome fluff in all of 40k in my opinion.

Painting reasons; Black and green is easy to paint. And in my opinion always look good on the tabletop (I'm a salamander player)

Lastly Welcome to Dakka! This feels wrong seeing as you have 2x as many posts as i do.

Hopefully one day i'll have an army!

Here's another vote for 40k.
Orks are an excellent choice, being a lot of fun both to play and convert.
Oh, and by the way, welcome to Dakka.
Edit: just noticed how many posts you have, so I guess my welcome is a bit late.

I can't give you a recommended army since that decision needs to be made by YOU and not US. Sure there are some armies that are more noob friendly (personally I recommend space marines, since there is no shortage of tactics, flexible and very forgiving the newbies like me , plus they are very easy to customize too).

If we recommend you an army and you end up hating it then the whole process becomes redundant and you either will blame us and waste your money or waste your money and waste more into another army.

What I recommend you do:

> Use google and research each system and honestly make something simple like a pro's/cons of each game and really give it an honest decision - you'll be thankful later
> Grab a hold of some rulebooks and see if the rules make more sense then the others and choose the one you feel comfortable using - do this if money isn't a issue or you find 'another' way
> Maybe do the same for some codex's or faction books

Or another option is to do all three - time and money permitting of course if you cannot decide

So to summarize i choose 40k and Space Marines in response to your question

Also, If you read this and think me a 'jerk' please think again - I have been involved in countless numbers of your topics in which you have asked this question over and over again and people give you good and valid advice and you immediately turn around and invalidate their opinion or reply with a short and vague response. From the sounds of it you want us here on Dakka to choose a faction and make the most powerful list and tell you how to use it either because you don't understand the rules or don't want to fork out for the rulebook and codex/faction books. Again - this is not a personal attack, you seem like a really interested guy and this is a big hobby when you first look into it - I know i am still confused and in most case, confused as you are, but there comes a time when you just need to take responsibility and act independently.

Again this is not a personal attack and take this post as you will, good luck to you and have fun in what ever system you choose.

Also since this is in Introductions - Welcome to Dakka!!!!

I'm not asking you to pick the army , I'm asking you to vote on the game I should play, really thats all I'm asking I told you orks dwarfs or trolls, circle, or skorne, and lastly I said you can tell advice you don't have to so I'm technically not asking for ur faction or army requests

Not sure that this should be introductions but I'll throw in my penny's worth anyway.

I'm not going to just tell you which game to play because I enjoy it the most, instead, read the background, have a look at the models, play an introductory game or two of each, and then come to a conclusion as to which system you enjoy more. Once you've decided that, then move on to which faction you would like to play.

If you want a vote here on Dakka 40k will likely win by a landslide. That doesn't really reflect anything about any of the games, but 40k wins in any popularity contest by virtue of having so many more players active on this site.

It might be easier to give you more direct advice on the games available to you rather than blindly vote without knowing your preferences. What are you looking for in a game? Dose the lore, aesthetics of the models, or the rules functionality matter most to you? Are you looking a big, long game, or a shorter game using fewer models? Would you rather have forces slowly grind away at each other in an attrition battle or would you prefer an ingenious play end the game decisively?

You mentioned you don't have a store close enough to try any of the games out, does that mean you'll be playing at home? Who will your opponents be? What are they looking for in a game? Do they already play one game or another?

For what it's worth I really enjoy warmachine but I would feel bad voting for you without knowing what your gaming needs are.

Well I won't be playing until I got to collage which is next year, I want a big force, I want in the middle of long and short games, in each game there's models i like but, I kind want to play the most popular so I can always find a game

I think it might be best to call the shops near your university and ask them what people play around there and if it is easy to pick up a game. If 40k is more popular there but your main day off just happens to be warmachine night it could alter how you and your new community interact.

I would suggest going to your LGS and seeing if they can set you up with a few trial matches. There a TONS of Armies. All of them have their own strengths and weaknesses. You will have people on here swear that one is the best and so forth, but you need to choose what you like and play it. Eventually you will be like the rest of us and field multiple armies.
