My question, when did Ultramarines went into plans ? IIRC from WD there were only two legions coming for Horus's arse (DA and SW)...
Did the "most loving codex writer" had something with that, so that UM don't get ignored ?
If so, do you think that battle for terra will involve more than 3 loyalist legions (since BL is doing all kinds of mushy stuff)?

ADB: I showed the Wolves revealing the key weakness at the heart of the World Eaters; showing Angron that his Legion was broken and worthless compared to the others; that he was the one primarch who couldn't trust his own warriors, and that they didn't care if he lived or died; showing that loyalty to brothers and sons is the heart of success for the Legiones Astartes, to the point even Lorgar makes a big deal out of saying the World Eaters and their primarch were massively outclassed by Russ, and Angron was too stupid to see the lesson Russ had sacrificed time, sweat, and blood, to teach. We're talking about a battle the Wolves won, by isolating the enemy general through pack tactics, and threatening to kill him, without a hope of defending himself. It was a balance, 50/50 - Angron overpowered Russ, and the Wolves were losing ground to the World Eaters; but Russ and his warriors had Angron by the balls, and barely broke a sweat. They won, no question. Lorgar even says: "The Wolves won, meathead."

Dorn won’t help you either. He’s too busy being the Emperor’s groundskeeper, hiding behind the palace walls. The Wolf is too busy cutting off heads as our father’s executioner, while the Lion holds on to his secrets, and has no special fondness for you. Who else will come? Not Ferrus, certainly. Nor Corax either. Even as we speak, I suspect he flees for Deliverance. Sanguinius?’ Curze laughed cruelly. ‘The angel is more cursed than I. The Khan? He does not wish to be found. So who is left? No one, Vulkan. None of them will come. You are simply not that important. You are alone.’ Konrad Curze to Vulkan

Commonly known is, the boyscouts in blue aren't at Terra 'just in time' as the modern logistican would say...

I'd like to keep it the old way, Fists, Angels and Scars defending, the other Angels and the Wolf incoming.
As we had seen before, Horus planned to have the upper Hand. Not through 1 vs 1 battles but 9 vs 3 for example.

"unremembered empire" may change this.

OTOH, the latest position of several Legions would still allow for the old fluff.
Blood Angels, returning from signus, meet with UM. Move on towards Terra.
Dark Angels, returning from their anti-NL campaign, meet with UM. Move towards Terra.
White Scars, could still meet the SW and move on towards Terra.
Space Wolves, got only Prospero, so IMO available to meet the WS and come to Terra.
Ultramarines, had Calth as their gathering point.

The smurfs got distracted Marko. Later additions went into the plans of GW.

'Shall be fun to see some years down the road and they might wanna distance themselves from the ultras due to unfortunate connections.

But in general the Word Bearers and Night Legion got in the way of the Ultras. That's why they had nothing to do with the Battle of Terra.

Any major engagement of the setting: Ultramarines are conveniently on the other side of the galaxy.

Except for Mcragge, where they got shredded by Tyranids, losing all their 1st Company vets.

Think of something clever to say.

Hehe Arc, it's tempting to adopt that in the face of the arrogance some of the players of Ultramarines can adopt. For opinions about the Ultras, they are better discussed privately, as they are the chapter exemplar. But with the arrogance to show for it, which my latest fluff-piece showed.

Hmmm, previous threads are mentioning "the big three" regulary.....I'll bet they would get involved, somehow - which is dumb....

The Wolves go for the throat. We go for the eyes. Then the tongue. Then the hands. Then the feet. Then we skin the crippled remains, and offer it up as an example to any still bearing witness. The wolves were warriors before they became soldiers. We were murderers first, last, and always."

The correct answer:

In one issue of White Dwarf, in 1993, the Dark Angels and Space Wolves were mentioned by name as almost being at Terra, and part of what pushed Horus to gambit. The Ultramarines were neither included, nor excluded. It is important to note that this is the only source that recounts it this way.

In every version of the fluff dating back at least to 1995's Codex: Ultramarines, the Ultramarines were also on their way to Terra, but, like the Space Wolves and Dark Angels, missed the battle.

All of the Codex: Chaos books fail to mention any of the three Chapters, instead opting for the "nobody knows why" version of the story.

The version where the Ultramarines are on the way to Terra is corroborated in all of the relevant Index Astartes articles included IA: Black Legion.

In Collected Visions, all three Chapters are noted as on their way to Terra and what pushed Horus to gamble..

No, this fluff has nothing to do with Mat Ward. You guys can all get off the hate train. And no, this isn't new. Unless by new, you mean you only played 40K in the late 80s/early 90s, and have been in a coma since then, and just woke up.

Or, you know, stopped an entire Hive Fleet. Either way you want to paint it.

PS, try not to pay attention to Beaviz. He has this bizarre hatred of the Ultramarines due to some kind of wacky association he has between the Ultramarines and a type of European soccer fans referred to as Ultras who are sometimes associated with racism and extremist behavior. Yeah, it really does make that little sense. He hates fictional characters because some real world people with a kind of similar name, are crazy. No. Seriously. Yeah.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?
