I've been thinking lately about adding something a bit different for my 40k Ork army, I want to add some feral orks, here is a rough idea of what I'm after:
Using WHFB savage Ork set
10 with bows to act as slugga representation, with axes etc on there backs
10 with axes/swords etc to represent choppas, with bows on their backs
Thus creating a boyz mob, not sure of how to get the big shoota into it though? This is where I'm stumbling

Using the WHFB savage Orks on boars set
Get 10 to represent bikers,
And they have a warboss type on a boar to act as the nob to lead the unit
But I need something to add to represent the dakkagun, maybe a bolt thrower type weapon?

Then using a 40k wierdboy to lead as a HQ

These will be attached to my existing army as if they have just been found on a planet and have just randomly joined the Waagh for a bit of skull smashing.

So the main bits I need help with is, what to use as big shootas in the mob, and what to use for the dakkaguns?

Any input is very much appreciated, even if its completely different to my idea (I haven't bought the models yet)

interesting idea, but it would have to be done well.

Big Shootas, - ballistae or really big bows?

Dakkaguns- saddlebags with grots/goblins in them

I like that saddlebag idea, grot throwing boar riders!

And I thought of big bows or a catapult but its getting a single model to hold it?

I really like the idea of using grots in saddlebags for dakkaguns, although I was thinking of giving them javelins instead of having them be the ammunition - Night Goblin archers on small platforms rigged to the sides might work well, too, although I'm worried about there size compared to boars, as opposed to bikes.

A man-(ork-)portable ballista sounds great for the big shoota, but it also seems like it'd be a tricky build. I'm sure there's a repeater crossbow bit out there that you could swap in more easily, at least for the time being or at least a chunky crossbow that you could slap a box on top of, to represent the increased rate of fire along with the higher power).

Don't forget to look at stuff like 15mm for stuff like that. Some of the historical and fantasy ballista would make pretty good supersized crossbows for an orc. Some smaller 28 mm siege weapons might be suitable as well like a carroballista.

You may even be able to find some catapults which are suitable in size to either mount on top of a boar or perhaps another large creature to fling grots or other orky forms of ammunition to count as larger guns.
