This is mostly a concept to shoot for in regards to my future purchases of a marine army.
The general concept is dropping the multi-melta dreds to alpha strike x2 vehicles turn 1, then drop the Sternguard turn 2 hopefully to shoot units off backfield objectives and then claim them for me.
Meanwhile, bikes race up the flanks to offer support turn 1 from melta and plasma, backed up by tactical marine missiles and 3 dakka preds. The Tactical squads i combat squad, and then use the flamer contingent to press upfield and handle anti-horde duties. Missiles camp the ADL, and man the quad gun.
I have a quad gun on the ADL to help cover anti-air duties.

I'd offer a couple of critisizms, and try to offer some suggestions for you. This is based on my experience with a Drop Pod based Crimson Fists Army

1) Don't Drop Pod regular dreads, Ironclads will do much better and don't have to worry about being killed by krak grenades.

2) Sternguard are great but max them out with combi-weps. I'd suggest a 5/5 mix. I tend to use 5 combi-flamer/5 combi-melta in my Pedro Squad

3) Due to the fragility of armour, I tend to use TFC instead of Preds these days. The TFC got a huge buff in 6th, comes with a free techmarine, and is heavy 4 with 60" range and multiple useful ammo types

4) 4 scoring units at 2K is good, but tacticals are not you're best bet all the time.

Suggestions

1) If you want to drop Dreads you should consider Iron Clads, and if you can afford it, Contemptor Dreads from Forge World. Also, the Lucius Pattern Drop Pod for Dreads is great, as it allows them to assault the turn they arrive, which may help preserve them from shooting or ensure a return of points.

2) I tend to use 2x 10 man Sternguard Squads in Pods, fully combi-weponed. I go 5/5 combi-flamer/melta with pedro and 5/5 combi-melta/plasma with the second. This is very flexible, and if dropped with a dread and combat squaded gives maximum killing power.

3) If you can find the points, dropping a Liby with the Sternguard can be helpful against hard targets with nullzone, and can get you're guys out after they burn their combi weps with GOI.

4) Don't be afraid to buy drop pods for units that won't actually use them all that often. If you have three units that you want to alpha strike on round one, buy two pods for troops (like tacticals) and just drop them empty. Remember, one half rounded up of your pods come in first turn. The more target saturation / firepower you can focus into the Alpha Strike the more effective it will be and the more likely it will be to survive.

This also works to give you choice if you decide to reserve the alpha strike due to the opponents list. I have done this against guard, dropping two empty pods on their doorstep along with a dread in a lucius pod. The Pods blocked line of sight and movement, and the dread ties up the front line blocking line of fire through the cc. I cleared some holes with my TFCs (I use two minimmun) then Stern dropped in on 2nd and 3rd and did lots of damage.

5) Trade a unit of tacticals for scout snipers with telion. Stick them behind the ADL and put telion on the Quadgun or an Icarus.

6) 5 man squads of sternguard can be used as mini devastator squads. They can have two heavy weps for cheaper than devs, and the other 3 can take combi weps. Flamers work as a great deterent from behind the ADL, and with Pedro they are a scoring unit.

That's all I can think of now,

Hope that helps

Instinctual, thanks for that excellent in-depth feedback
I wanted to go with the regular dreds, due to the fact they can take multi-meltas as opposed to the normal ones on an ironclad. Would you say that is overkill, and i can get by with the normal melta

I can try to find the points to spring for some combi-weapons for the marines

That is an excellent idea, so I can get my sternguard and dreds all in turn 1, maximize that alpha strike.

I could shave a few points by getting the scouts to camp the adl and rely on cover saves.
The cover saves from the adl would also benefit my parked tanks, making them more survivable?

What would you suggest I lose to make it to 1999 +1?

Multi Melta is exactly the same as the normal Melta gun, only with more range. If you are podding + 6" disembark, range should not be an issue, so go ironclad

Sorry it took me so long to respond, Holidays and all

For meltas you should be fine with the regular, as drop pod range should negate the advantage posed by the multi-melta

The combi-weps are worth it, find the points. If you want to try some options pick up some of the combi-wep kits over at chapterhouse studios, for $50 you can equip a 10 man squad with all possible variations (they are magnetized). They are decent sculpts and I've had good luck with them.

There is also a discussion going about the necessity of opening drop pod doors on deployment, and as far as I can tell from FAQs and forums, you can leave the doors up for cover if desired, making those auxiliary pods all that more useful. Just open the door with line of sight to the unit you want to shoot with the storm bolter, leave the rest shut, instant wall to hide behind

The ADL will give a cover save to all current tanks I believe save for a super-heavy. I believe its a 5+ (no rule book handy), but should help to substantially increase their ability to shrug off incoming fire.

I don't have my army builder files with me currently, but feel free to check out the following thread for a commentary on my current list, which wiht a few tweaks should fall into your 1999 + 1 range.

I wouldint take the Pred tanks i would switch with a Thunder fire Cannon and scout combo
if you include telion or camo cloaks your talking about a 2+ cover save and great defense for holding objectives
and really good infantry killer and sence infantry wins games why not have the anti

last thing i would suggest is rhinos for tac to hold the middle line

My list does include camo cloaks on the scouts, i still don't get the craze with telion, i've never seen him be worth the points, and he makesmy current scouts 50 pts more expensive.

The thunderfire cannons cost more, and are far less mobile than the preds, which if I were to play Big Guns, are three additional scoring units.Yes, they can't fire shots that ignore cover, but I feel the 2 autocannon shots and 6 HB shots at full BS skill, given cover saves are an adaquate answer to the firepower question.
Right now they are my answer to heavy infantry or MC's

The Tac Marines might need rhinos...but I'm not sure where to find the 75 points for them, I feel the alpha strike the list provides will take the heat off of my tacs as they take objectives.

in regards to that last list, Telion is only an extra 35 points, because with his stealth you dont need the cloaks... for the 35 points you get him with his Boltgun and and his eye of vengeance. i think he often mskes his points.

The list looks solid, and instinctuals advice is solid, apart from the keeping the drop pod closed up, yes you could, but do you want to be TFG?

Surely not.

Other than that, Alpha strike until your ears bleed, I really like the revised list, nice to see the Bike Squadrons loaded for multi use, and the Multi Melta option means you can hold back in the 18-24" range and snipe for effect against incorrectly placed special and heavy weapons!

How exactly is it justified that one can leave the Drop Pod doors closed to deny LOS?
I do not seem to find such a topic on the FAQ..

I wasn't gonna try my luck in regards to the drop pod doors, i figure i'd rather keep my friends.
So sounds like I have a solid sorta list! Just finished buying the tac squads and the scouts.
