So I just got home from seeing the Hobbit in theaters. I thought it was a great movie. In fact, it really got me excited about fantasy, I thought "Wow, that's so cool, I wish I could somehow fight battles with little models of things like, I dunno, dwarves and orcs and elves." Games Workshop obviously thought the same, they pushed LOTR a few years back and now they're pushing their Hobbit line.
However, my question is, why didn't they just push their already great fantasy equivalent?
Watching the Hobbit made me really excited to play fantasy, not with their Hobbit line, but WHFB because it already has dwarves and orcs and whatnot. Now I know because of copyright laws, they couldn't make it look exactly the same or use the same names, and maybe that might turn away some people. But I feel like if they really pushed fantasy more, didn't spend the money on LOTR/Hobbit IP or put that money into pushing fantasy (especially the races featured in the film, like dwarves and Orcs and Goblins) they would be a whole lot better off.
So, who has worse ideas I guess: me, or GW?

Because even GW can't pretend that it's a good game.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Opinions aside, I think it's at least better than their LOTR game, and I'll admit maybe "great" wasn't the most applicable adjective, but you get my point

Honestly LOTR is a far, far better game. The rules are better, the models are better, and if GW killed off WHFB in favor of LOTR as their fantasy game I wouldn't be too sad.

And of course you're missing the most important factor: WHFB doesn't have the LOTR license. Fanboys want the licensed product, so GW makes it.
