How good are thunderfire cannons. I have a friend who will go out of his way to make sure there is a thunder fire in his lists because he likes them so much and is so good with them i mean i have watched him kill of 6 marines out of a tac squad with one salvo from this thing but whenever he plays me he can never get more then 3 at a time and thats rare.

so my question is. Is the thunder fire cannon More of a in famine and in plenty weapon or is it worth taking in competitive lists?

It is very VERY good, but so are marines, thats why he doesn't kill that much there. Try fielding it against terrain hugging guardsmen or gaunts.. 2+ to wound-no saves most of the time, it clears up a lot.
Just remember to shoot at the blobs, and if something scary comes close, you still cab fire a TL plasma pistol and a flamer or bolt pistol. If the cannon breaks down, you still have a 2 powerfist 2+ save epic model that can repair your vehicles.
Next to that you can reinforce ruins, giving camocloak snipers a 3+ or better cover save!

Then it costs only 100 points and is scoring with big guns never tire.. I say its a must-have!

I'd say it'll start being taken into more competitive lists. This is due to the sheer number of wounds it can put on things, it's flexibility, and it's added survivability with 6th Ed. I personally love them and try to add one to every list I have. Obviously they won't fit in every list but there very good for their points. Example in a game against IG I killed 84 models in 4 turns. That's kills not wounds. It basically ravages horde armies and can even do damage to vehicles if there aren't any better targets.
