So I know the general consensus on sentinels is that they start, shoot and die. But I am going to be playing a mega battle this summer and might as well field a couple. What do you guys suggest? I was thinking armored sentinel's wth/ AC? Plasma cannons would be fun but it's a bit of a "shoot me" sign. Planning on flying out with a friend to do mini wargamings mega battle so points is not really a problem.

Outflanking lascannons? Guaranteed side armor shots.

No, only Scout Sentinels can outflank.

I use a pair of Scout Sentinels with autocannons Cheap and all right with rear armour. Lascannons can be more reliable when it comes to penetrating armour but costier to arm.

Just walk on somewhere that won't get pelted by the Aegis gun for their trouble, and hit whatever you want with Autocannons/Lascannons.

Make sure they are the outflanking versions, however, or they'll get taken out by a stiff breeze.

Take Scout Sentinels then give them LCs and Camo Netting and move into area cover. Very hard to dislodge

Ok, sounds good. Please take into account that points is absolutely no problem as this will be (hopefully) mini wargamings apocalypse battle.

If that's the case you can bring everything and pimp them out to the max.
Had PCSs' and ISs'? They are now CCSs and Veterans pimped out with so much bling they oughta be made outta gold.

But with sentinels, if they have the "shoot me" sign it means that people want to shoot them. Do you want to take out vehicles or units?

when points are an issue id say autocannon because they are so easy to destroy but big apocolypse battle id say lascannon to pop the doubtlessly hordes of armour

Autocannona most definitely. Even if they only survive to take out a couple piranhas/speeders they will earn their points back. More often than not your enemys guns will be focused on bigger threats, letting them tear up transports. But if they are shot at, they're cheap and wasting your opponents shooting.

I'd advise against lascannons. They're more expensive and with a guard BS can be a total waste.

Oh and scout sentinels. Always scouts, never armored.

Do walkers benefit from different rules for cover? Because as I thought a walker was a vehicles which means that it still requires 25% of it to be blocked to get cover bonus so most area terrain will not help.

I used mine with auto cannons but I believe scout sentinels with lascannons would be even better. OUtflank and get side or rear armor shots.

Vehicles follow the same cover rules as infantry; if you're in area terrain that gives 4+, you get 4+; assuming your area terrain isn't a barren wasteland or a forest with two trees in it.

I'm not sure if walkers get special consideration though, since they're more capable of using sparse cover from a logics standpoint.

Diligently behind a rifle...

A Scout Sentinel with a Lascannon combined with Astropath is a nice combo. Outflank into a weaker point of your opponent's backfield, snipe vehicles and distract away from the rest of your army. I've also run Autocannon and Missile Launcher scouts with some success in the past. The most fun I've had with Sentinels is having them Outflank and attempt to get into close combat with Devastator squads. A 35 point tarpit on some units is golden. Who cares if it dies, it just went in there tarpitted a shooty unit in close combat and saved other parts of my army from their fire for a few turns.

I suggest you arm them with magnets.
Then, try everything out.
From my experience, the missile launchers are expensive and crappy. Go with Autocannons, Mulit-lasers or Lascannons!
