Played 1000 point game yesterday and decided to write a battle report while playing the game. We both just finished painting our armies. The chaos player is looking to add new units since he only had old stuff.
Terrain was placed and we rolled for mission and deployment. Bigs guns never tire with dawn of war. Pics below shows both armies
A Death Guard held world has fallen under attack from a unknown tyranid hive fleet emerging from the void. The followers of nurgle cut off from their brothers have held back the tide of beasts thus far. However the Tyranids have laid eggs on the planets surface to spawn and overwhelm the defenders. Can the plague marines capture and destroy the eggs before they hatch....?

Chaos player won roll to deploy first.
We are using red tyranid eggs on bases as objectives which are placed as shown.

Chaos Turn 1
Spoiler:
1. Plague marines opposite Tervigon shoot it causing a wound, however 1 marine melts his own hand off with hot plasma
2. Terminators shoot and inflict a wound on a tyrant guard and the hive tyrant
3. Plague squad near the Terminators open up on the tyrant inflicting a wound on the other tyrant guard
Nids Turn 1
Spoiler:
1. Hive tyrant casts endurance on itself granting the unit FNP & it will not die
2. Tervigons fails to regenerate it's wound but spawns 14 guants without a double & casts FNP on itself
3. Zoanthropes kill a plague marine in the grass with psychic blasts
4. Hive tyrants shoot brainleech worms at terminators but they pass an amazing 10 saves
5. end of turn both tyrant guard recover their wounds from endurance
Chaos Turn 2
Spoiler:
1. Vindicator moves to fire on guants and kills 8 with its blast
2. plague squad in grass shoots but fails to harm tervigon
3. 6 marines in the middle shoot hive guard but they are too tough for bolters
4. Terminators shoot inflicting 1 wound on tyrant guard and the 3rd marine squad wound the other
Nids Turn 2
Spoiler:
1.Tervigon fails to regenerate, spawns 14 guants again but rolls a double & casts FNP on itself again
2.Hive tyrant casts Endurance on itself
3. Hive guard shoot and strip 2 hull points from vindicator
4.Zoanthropes shoot warps blasts and kill 4 plague marines in cover leaving only the captain and chaos lord left alive
5. guants charge chaos lord and plague captain but fail to harm them loosing 4 in return
6. Hive tyrant & guard charge 10 through terrain into the terminators. Terminator champion challenges hive tyrant and they both kill each other . Tyrant guard kill 1 terminator while taking a loss themselves.
Chaos Turn 3
Spoiler:
1.Vindicator shoots and hits all three zoanthropes but they pass their 3++
2. plague squad shoots at hive guard to no avail
3. The lone tyrant guard kills 1 terminator in the assault
4. 3 guants die in the combat with the chaos lord
Nids Turn 3
Spoiler:
1. Tervigon casts FNP on self. Fails to regen wound again.
2. Hive guard shoot vindicator but the shots bounce
3. Zoanthropes warp lance vindicator destroying it but zoanthropes takes a wound from perils
4. Tervigon fires it's cluster spines in the air killing one marine
5. Angry tyrant guard kills last terminator in the assault before he can strike and consolidates into the grass
6. Guants kill plague captain and wounds the chaos lord in combat.
Chaos Turn 4
Spoiler:
1. 6 man plague marine unit wounds zoanthropes with bolter fire
2. 2nd plague squad wounds hive guard with its plasma gunner
3. lord kills 1 guant in combat
Nids Turn 4
Spoiler:
1. Tervigon casts FNP on Zoanthropes
2. Hive guard shoot plague marines but they don't feel the pain
3. Zoanthropes let out some mighty warp blasts killing 5 plague marines!
4. enraged Tyrant guard charges plague squad on the objective but gets cut down with plague knife
5. Tervigon charges chaos lord locked in combat with the giants. Lord challenges tervigon but both sides fail to hit
Chaos Turn 5
Spoiler:
1. Zoanthropes get shot by plague marines but they pass saves
2. Tervigon and lord fail to do anything in the ongoing challenge
Nids Turn 5
Spoiler:
1. Tervigon crushes chaos lord instant killing him in the challenge
2. Zoanthropes fail to wound plague marines
3. Hive guard kill lone plague marine in the open
Game ends end of turn 5.

Tyranid victory! I thanked my opponent for a great game and im looking forward to playing again later against a helldrake among other things being painted next.

That was a great report; nice to see someone with painted armies and terrain.
Just a couple of things; the pictures were a little dark, and also it would be nice to see a written out list, but overall I could get a good idea of what was going on.

Sorry about the darkness of some of the pics. As you can see they get darker as the game goes on, it started to get dark outside and the light inside didn't shine very bright.
I'm not 100% sure of the chaos army list but my list is:
Nice bat rep, and its great to see fully painted armies, a better quality camera would give them the justice they deserve. I am now going to have to respectfully request you tell us how you painted those nids, they look awesome. Particularly the flesh on them, is it just White base coat with a wash or dip?
I agree with the above posters, that is a great looking board, great looking terrain, looks simple enough that even I could do it, and the models all looked great! Awesome!

The nids where painted with a white undercoat and then airbrushed with XV-88. The underneath of each model was then shaded with a 50/50 mix of XV-88 and rhinox hide. Entire model was then washed with agrax earthshade. Carapace is then painted black and the edges highlighed with rhinox hide with increasing mix of doombull brown untill 100% doombull brown. All GW paints. I used an airbrush to get a nice thin coverage for each step on the skin.
I haven't painted eyes yet, but they will probly be yellow.
I could do a tutorial on each step on request since i'm painting another 1000 points for bigger games atm.
Glad you enjoyed the battle report. I know the pics arn't very good quality, they where taken on iphone 4s. If you know of a way i can take better pictures with an iphone please let me know. I think it might just be a poor lighting issue maybe.
I'm going to be playing more games this week so ill try and get another battle report posted and improve the picture quality.
Nice paint job on both armies and great board. This is a nice surprise considering the usual crap being seen by some of the so called celeb's with their half painted armies with and/or proxy models with generally crappy terrain and/or board.
You put a lot of vets to shame. Good for you.

Great report with awesome armies on both sides + cool terrain. Really made the game feel bigger than 1000p How did you make the "egg" thingies? They looked spot on for tyranids!

Nice batrep! Painted armies looked fantastic and the terrain was cash. What do you use to make the area terrain? I love it because it's moveable and easy to keep models on it.
