Subject: Atlas Recovery Tank, making it work

Hello everyone!
Today I just kitbashed a sweet, sweet looking Atlas Recovery Tank with parts I've been saving up for a long time with these plans in mind. Mainly I did it because my regiment needed one, but now that its built I feel bad that it won't hit the table.
So I will make it hit the table! However, I am looking for ways to make it viable. The obvious, and best, is following around Techpriest Enginseers for that amazing re-roll repair rolls AND get a second repair roll.
The towing ability seems rather derp, although can be good in very very specific situations, I guess. A hilarious use for it would be allying with marines and towing drop-pods around - but it's not terribly practical.

There isn't any way to make it work. Techpriests are garbage, and the whole "combo" costs more than just buying a spare tank to replace the one that was damaged. The only small benefit the Atlas provides is that it's the cheapest AV 14 you can get and a fairly tall model, so you can give cover/LOS blocking to smaller units behind it. And note that they are NOT heavy vehicles, so you can move to clear a shot in the movement phase, then move back to block LOS in the shooting phase once the unit behind it has fired.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

What you say is true - I will consider using it as a metal meat-shield, although buying an 85-point unit to use as a meatshield seems silly to me. Thanks for the input - looks like I'll drop it.

IF you happen to have an Armored company then it starts to be okay for keeping hull points around. and keeping the "Warlord" alive.

It is an easier burden to bear in larger point games. The atlas enginseer Trojan combo can rack up a lot of points quick. But the Trojan can give preferred enemy to a whole squad of the arty or tanks of your choice. Granted, I have not tried this yet myself. Have not had a chance to use the new ABG. But I tended to work an Engineseer into my larger mech lists, although more so in 4th Ed over 5th. (Darn loss of independent character).

Well, at least it's a really nice piece of terrain And possibly it could be used as an objective marker in some games?
