I have recently picked up some heresy armor from Forge World and I was wondering if there we any tricks to make the paint stand out more? (p.s. semi new to the hobby)

Can you be more specific? Do you mean techniques, colors, scheme (as befits the thread title)

As far as schemes...salamanders already have an established scheme, unless you want to go with an offshott chapter I would stick to that...the best I can tell you on limited info is to use oranges in select spots to liven it up, and don't go with pastel orange, go for a nice deep, rich color

I mean techniques to make the green more vibrant, anything would be helpful.

prime the models in white, and when you mix the salamander green ( 50/50 goblin green and scorpion green, don't know what the new names are) use a little more of the intense lime green (scorpion green).

that may make the models more intense than you can stand so do a test model first. alternately you can prime grey and dust on white from the top as a preshade highlight.

Check my gallery. My own take on "standing out", if you want to aim for that ask away and I´ll tell you how to paint.
