If one were to start building up their DA army early before the relase of the new models and codex, what do you guys think would be solid, safe choices to go for? Tac units? DV models? Tanks?
What are the safe bets?
What should one wait for considering the leaked WD shots?
Lastly, when do we expect the new models to drop?

Well rhinos, razorbacks, and land raiders are always useful. Due to the leaked photos, I wouldn't buy any bikes or terminators, unless you get the DV dark angels.

Wait another 10 days and you will know what you need.

Alternatively you can go to ebay or spikeybits store and buy the DV Deathwing and bike sprues.

The Veterans box will be a safe buy as even if you don't build the 5 veterans, it will provide a plethora of parts for your army.

I'd wait on tanks. We have no idea what shiny new plane/big-thing kit they'll be releasing alongside the DA.
Tac marines and plasma weapony stuff seems like your best bet.

Tacs are probably best bought as a mix of DV marines and regular tac and the upgrade sprues? Im new to SM of any sort BTW.

I'll have to point out that generally, if you're gonna play Dark Angels, you're going to want to play terminators and bikes + land speeders (Deathwing & Ravenwing) because that's what they're themed around. Getting a ton of power armor dudes and rhinos and land raiders isn't going to do you much justice.

I'll have to advise against getting those and instead look out specifically for Dark Vengeance terminators and bikes. They're hella easy to assemble and the models are incredibly detailed for being plastic.

I would guess plasma, plasma everywhere.

To the point where your army is viewed as nothing but plasma guns on legs and how many ablative wounds each one has to absorb enemy fire.

Or just go for air superiority because of, well, this:

Right now, If you wanted to get into DA, start with the basics.

Get 2 tactical squads, Then wait and see whats released.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....
