My brother and I are starting FOW and have decided to split the Open Fire box set with him getting the Germans. What could he had for less than $100 USD that would give him a sizable force close to 1250-1500?
Note: He wants to have a balanced forced, Mixed, Tanks, Infantry, halftracks?

A couple of ways to go but a box of Plastic Soldier Company German tanks will go far. For about $30 retail you can get around 450 pts to add to the 800 pts of Germans that come in the box. As long as he fields all the Open Fire stuff, that'll be in the 1200 pt range.
They also sell halftracks platoons very reasonably priced but don't think you'll be able to get the tanks + enough halftracks to field a fully half-tracked company for $100.

A smart way to go for both of you is to buy 2 Open Fires and swap the bits. The only extra stuff for the Allies would be the US paratroopers (you can only take one platoon if you're playing Brit Armored Squadron). But...you can always use that extra platoon to start yourself a US paratrooper company.

I thought about buying 2 of the box sets and then adding some Easy Eights to the mix, I want to go American, but if I can't get everything to start with those two sets then I can go British and will build an Irish Guard list. His Germans, he wants to bring Tigers and Halftracks although I'm not sure of the amount of each. Since we're new we want to get some games in around 1200ish so we have decent sized armies yet, small enough to focus on the rules so that we can learn them.

In the Open Fire Box Set are the Allied tanks British or American? I know that the Paratroopers are American but I'm getting mixed responses about what the tanks can be used for.

A few things to note

1) there is a new market garden out on January 12 and the Irish guards list will be updated

2) for the regular shermans there is little difference between the us and uk

3) firefly tanks were unique for the brits though!

I'd also suggest make sure your tanks have some infantry and recon back up

I will definitely be getting Market Garden in January. 2 Paychecks and a birthday so I will have some extra money. I don't have any of the intel books yet, but I know we're buying the Open Fire box set and want to ad on but don't want to spend a ton of money. As far as whether I go British or American it kinda depends on what research I do until the buy date and what you guys post on here.
