Maybe it's the gold on the box that appeals to me, but I think I am about to run out and purchase the Escape from Goblin Town boxed set. Partially, it's because of the dwarves, partially because I want to start another army (the goblins!). What sourcebook should go along with the goblins, since I am being told that the points cost for the goblins from goblin town are not in the mini rule book? Should I instead buy the models individually since I've seen in other threads that I'll HAVE to buy the BGB in order to play? Are there rules missing?

I've somehow nabbed $150 in Games Workshop Gift Certificates and instead of buying Warhammer series models (I'm sooooo bored with those two), I felt I'd pick up something that looks a lot more fun. I already have a sizable Galadhrim army being slowly built (2xBox of Knights, 4 (or more)xBox of Warriors, Haldir, Legolas on horse/dismounted (I meant to pick up Rumil, but eh)) and I'm beginning to look at other armies to add.

Ah... I really shouldn't be posting at 2:45-3am after a full day/night of merriment, but hey...

So my real questions are: I think I want to collect the new goblins for an army. Do I also need to pick up another book to total out stats and whatnot? I am thinking of grabbing Escape from Goblin Town + 1xBox of Goblins. Does that appear to be a good start to a new army? Should I also pick up the BGB, or will the mini-book be acceptable for current and future skirmish play?

In order to use the goblins of the goblin king in points match games you need to buy the big rulebook

Okay, bought the collector's edition set (I'm a sucker for CE stuff, stupid Star Wars: The Old Republic!) and I am not disappointed in the least. One of the books even suggests a way to bring your army up to 750 points by including the trolls, which I very well may do. Between today and two weeks from now, I intend to buy the full rule book in order to accurately try and set up a Goblin Town themed(ish) army.

The models in the box are all pretty amazing. It is a shame my painting skills are lacking in the face painting department (12 years of painting models and I've very rarely gotten the faces right).

In the end, I'll have the Goblin King (I think also called Great Goblin?), 36 goblins, Grinnah, a Goblin Captain and a trio of Trolls to test out as an Evil Force. --

I can see right now that a big issue I'll end up facing is staying alive long enough to reach archers. Luckily, in the SBG, only 1/3 of the force can carry bows. Terrain might be a huge boon for players of the Goblin Town forces.

So far my 500pts list is
Goblin King with 10 goblins
Grinnah with 12 goblins
Goblin captain with 12 goblins
Goblin captain with 12 goblins
Gollum
Scribe.
499pts. It is essentially goblin town boxed set with an additional captain and box of goblins. Admittedly it is lacking any real threat but with allies it`s easy fixed

I'm thinking of doing something similar when I finally buy the set (Finally saw the movie today, now my buying resistance is broken).

Perhaps some Moria Goblin Archers and a Cave Troll in your allies?

So, what I think I am going to pick up in addition to the Goblins are the three trolls and Gollum. I thought about going for a few cave trolls from Moria or something, but I kinda like the trio.

My list will look like this:

Great Goblin
10 Goblins

Grinnah
8 Goblins

Scribe
10 Goblins

Gollum

Three Trolls

Total comes out to 747 (the points total I am working toward) with 35 units on the table. On the downside, it has a low model count for a horde of goblins and the Scribe will need protecting (there are more downsides, but those are the most glaring, to me).

On the upside, I have the trolls to back up the Great Goblin/Goblin King and the scribe to hopefully pump out extra goblins as needed.
