Vargheists run better in 2 units of 3, they are a glass hammer.

I know its only 1k points but you can really take advantage of the growing unit ability if you take out some vargheists, add level 1 necromancers and units of 20 zombies. A 20 zombie unit + necromancer is only 135pts. Small point games vampire counts are nearly impossible to beat with armies centered around growth.

Zombies are the one unit I cant run. I got about 30 of them, and those are mantic so cant use down the store. Will split the vargheists up though
Also, the vampire comes to almost 200pts, so the hero limits an issue with the necromancers

Ahh thats crappy they wont allow you to use non GW miniatures. I've taken non GW mini's to 'Ard Boyz tournaments. I just said it was a conversion and they let me go. So long as they look close enough. The main thing is basing them so no one can tell they are on circular bases put into a 20 MM base. Then its technically converted =D

Yeah, i used mantic zombies in a painting comp a while back there. Granted they did have GW peasant legs. I could convert them and hope for the best.

I would honestly just base them and put a GW hand or something on the base or some stupid peice of something so that there is a GW tie on it if thats the case. What i did to save money when making my Mousillon Bret theme'd army was for the M@A I used manic zombies/skeletons and glued those stupid bret hats on them. Most people thought they were the coolest zombies ever, its amazing how nice people are when they can't identify the model, then how fast they change when they find out its an off brand.

Generally speaking I try to only use GW models, but if you can get something that looks better and its cheaper, I don't see why not, GW should lower the prices or make a better looking model in that case, especially when you can get away with it in 'Ard Boyz. Lastly we are talking about zombies, the red headed step child of the skaven slave, its not like you are using an off brand stack of 50 hex wraiths or something that can actually hurt people.
