Without going the allied route - as adding a single flyer is often too little regardless what do we have? I've been relying on LFs with prescience - two squads may take down a flyer a turn ... or just filling the table with troops, denying space and winning the ground game. Enough WG temies in squads, and using just three pr vehicles seems to help ( I just use pods ). It has not been terrible - flyers are overall expensive so it can help in some ways but a late vendetta dropping vets on an objective can hurt a bit. Mass Tesla is also not that much fun to face. So how have others been coping.

I did pretty well with adding a pair of Rifleman dreads and a TLLC/ML dread. Admittedly, last night I couldn't get a Heldrake to fail a 5+ to save my life, but I put plenty of penetrating hits on it.

You can park LFs behind an Aegis and have the squad leader man the quad gun. Or just take a bunch of dudes and ignore the fliers. Twin linked weapons are also okay for getting some hits.

Really, without allies, it's pretty limited. Fortunately, allies can bring more than flier defense. IG, for example, off not only Vnedettas but also lots of dudes (infantry platoons) who really like a IC with ATSKNF in them.

Your post didnt mention anything about the ADL...have you tried that to get an AA gun into your list? Short of the ADL it would seem your best bet is Long Fangs....lots of Long Fangs...

When you dont have any true AA in the army dealing with fliers is like dealing with anything else, just need to throw mass amounts of dice at it or depending on the list your facing you can try to ignore the fliers depending on how many and what they are doing

People seem to place way too much confidence in quad autocannons. My experience with them has not been stellar. I'm using LFs with prescience. Again ... okay but not stellar.

Char w/ saga of the hunter (for stealth)
ADL+quad

Unit to man it- I dont recommend LF's, small squad size makes them easier to remove. I'd probably go 10 GH w/ plasma and park it on an objective. 3+ cover for 11 marines on an objective with AA Capabilities.

Not outflanking a character with SotH? Russ would not approve!

TLHB Razorspam would probably help out a fair bit. Functionally BS2 when firing at flyers, 3 hots a piece, good range and good enough strength to strip a hull point off most flyers.

It doesn't beat something with Skyfire, but it's not that much more expensive (and possibly cheaper) if you are doing mech anyway and still very useful against infantry based forces.

Tau and Space Wolves since 5th Edition.

Just a question, can Long Fangs take Flakk missiles?

Would hate to run into a bunch of squads of them with missile launchers if I was running a Heldrake.

Except torrent allows you to hit at funky angles. You'd need a V formation to minimize flamethrower Hits and try to make the TDA take the hits.
