With a new version of apocalypse on the horizon and the original Vehicle Design Rules rules now 10 years old it seems time to try and work out new ones.

The originals weren't perfect but they were simple to use and could make everything from an IG staff car to an Imperiator Titan.

I was thinking of starting a thread to update the old ones but has anyone seen house rules for 6th edition VDR?

Perferably something a bit more detailed than GW's 'make some stuff up' suggestion in the Apoc book...

I'd be interested in seeing some new VDR rules, VDR was fun to play with back in the day. Only thing I didnt like about VDR is the points got kind of funny if you tried to build something that was in a codex. VDR point costs were always through the roof when trying to recreate something

Still dreaming of a 200 bolter Land Raider for 500 points, a Tyranid Land Raider for Genestealers or other abusive things?
If auto-balancing point costs were so easy, we wouldn't see so many point cost fails in the official Codices.

Yeah I don't think you can "balance" points costs simply with an algorithm. Apart from anything else, you *have* to take synergy into account. The Land Raider costs 250 points because it can deliver assault terminators into your opponent's face, if it were in the IG codex it would have to be considerably cheaper.

Naaa na na na-na-na-naaa.

But with allies it still could deliver termis to the face.

Yep you got me Kroot, all this time I've secretly been a win at all costs player just waiting for my chance to field the Land Raider Defenstrator with its Twin Linked Mega Gattling Blast Long Barrel Assault Cannons with Co-Axel Star Cannons which somehow only costs 100 points.

Nah, when I was big into VDR the deadliest thing I came up with the Land Raider Mule, an open-topped rhino variant for delivering ammo and supplies.

Why was it deadly? Because it could carry termis who could fire all their weapons out of it and charge in any direction. Oh you blew me up? Oh no, now I made all my saves and I'm a few inches closer to you!

And it cost under 50 points IIRC.

Fluffy, interesting, fit the army but oh so broken...

So yeah, I get the point that no system will ever be perfect but surely one can try...

I guess I'll have to start that thread now won't I?
