Hi all
Just about to assemble my first squad of grey hunters. Trying to plan which extras to buy so if anyone has any experience with any of the following I'd be interested to see you views -
1. When assembling do people tend to just go for a mix of those with helmets and those without? I'm thinking at the moment of doing2 squads all with helmets and 2 squads all without
2. Has anyone ever bought and used the brass etchings from forgeworld? Can they be used on rounded surfaces like shoulder pads or are they flat surface only? How do they look when painted?
3. Has anybody used the bitz packs from Gw with the grey hunters shoulder pads or Ragnar blackmane ones with raised details? I'd like to use them but would have to convert the grey hunter ones for 3 of the squads as would want all the squads to have them or none of them.
4. I really like the forgeworld Sw terminators conversion pack shoulder pads, do they fit on the new space wolf terminators box set models?
Thanks brothers!

My answers are by no means "Law", but I have some experience with building a wolves army.
1. I have seen quite a few mixes of both, I tend to believe they are space vikings and most of them don't wear helmets, plus they have epic beards and haircuts, why not show them off?
2. I have a set of Brass Etchings from a GW kit, they paint up decently (I have been using them for Bases) though IMO it would be hard to conform them to a shoulderpad for the purpose of using it as Iconography.
3. Sadly I have not used these packs, I used the Black Templar ones when I built them, If you are good at the conversion part of it, they can be a really nice addition, and look much better than Transfers in the end (once again my opinion).
4. All Forgeworld stuff outside of Horus Heresy should be developed for the out of box stuff, so yes This http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Space_Marines/Space_Marine-Infantry-and-Accessories/SPACE_WOLVES_TERMINATOR_CONVERSION_SET.html Is made as a direct replacement for the current Wolf Lord Terminators box set, however if you are already buying the Wolf Lords, there isn't a terrible amount of sense to buying just the conversion kit, I believe it was made before GW had released the actual models.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that man.
I now have another issue having just opened my first box of grey hunters - no melta gun option on the sprues. Great now I can spend god knows how much on bitz websites
Can I ask if anyone knows re long fangs:
- is the old release box worth looking out for on ebay? I assume they were metal
- does anyone know if a new long fangs box is planned?
- do people just use regular devestator packs at the moment? That's going to look a bit poor and cost a bomb in extra missile launchers me thinks :(

Old box isn't really worth it.
There's no rumors of new Long Fangs.
What I did was to buy a GH box and get missile launchers in trades and buying then put them together.

When I built wolves, Yeah I just used a regular devs pack and robbed some of the leftover heads and crazy bits from my Grey Hunters.
Sadly yeah, I do remember them not coming with Meltas, which does suck the high hard one as you will pay probably $4 a piece from a bits site. Honestly if you are in the market, I have had a ton of luck in the Dakka Swap Shop, I bet if you posted you were looking for "X" number of Meltaguns, you could probably find a Dakkanaut to help you out for considerably cheaper than a bits site.
Missile Launchers I would say you could be in the same boat as above, I did however think that Devs came with some outrageous amount of Missile Launchers, but don't hold me to that.
Edit: I retract that bit about the missile launchers... apparently they only come with 1, I must have been taking crazy pills when I opened them.

Devastator squad comes with a single missile launcher which is somewhat disappointing. I managed to make my longfangs out of the devastator box, spare space wolves heads from my grey hunters and missile launchers from previous kits (2 IG HW team, 1 tactical squad). Its a bit of a scavenger hunt trying to dig the bits out and I swear I had more last time I checked but they all disappeared when I actually wanted to use them.

Actually, meltas are the easiest to get. YOu can get 5 metal meltas from GW for like $8.
As for missle launchers, I use a combination of all editions (metal to AOBR) along with converted hunter killers from the new rhino kits.
