VC's are a new army for me as I needed something different to paint and it was only a matter of time before I picked them up. My first list for them for a friendly league starting up in January. Looking for some ideas to make it a little better.

Lords - 473pts

Vampire Lord, Level 4(LoV), Redfury, Shield, Armour of Fortune, Sword of Bloodshed.

Heroes - 155

Necromancer Dispell Scroll
Necromancer

Core - 570

Crypt Ghoul x20 (champion)
Zombie x 20 (Bearer/Music)
Zombie x20 (Bearer/Music)
Skeletons x38 (FC)

Special - 505

Grave Guard x 15 (Music/Bearer)
Hexwraith x 5 (Champion)
Hexwraith x5 (Champion)

Rare - 545

Black Coach
Cairn Wrraiths x3 (upgraded 1 to banshee)
Varghluf

Total 2248

I was considering dropping some wizard levels on the vampire lord m aybe taking her to level 1 or 2. Not really sure its even worth using a level 4 other than the bonus to dispelling for VC's and rearranging things to get a corpse cart in or some more grave guard. I do know that I definately want the 2 zombie blocks with necors in them and the 2 units of Hex's.

10k+ High Elf
6.5k Dwarf
7k Original Chaos Dwarf (not the crappy forge world)
6k Bretonnia
7k Wood Elf
6k Dark Elf
8k Tomb Kings
5k Beastmen
5k Lizardmen
7k Daemons of Chaos (roughly 2.5k all but Tzeentch, I find them useless in 8th other than flamers and heralds)
5.5k Empire

You will defiantly find at 2200ish units of 15 or 20 not big enough, you'll need more grave guard. As for the ghouls.. I have found them an all or nothing unit, take forty or take none. Your core should either be there to slow things down and never accomplish anything other than that or don't bother with the grave guard and really beef the unit up.

I think you have too many points in your rare section, VCs have some great specials and amazing characters but I wouldn't be taking more than 1 unit from the rare section. Cairn wraiths are nice but you can take them as heroes instead and keep in mind the vargulf no longer has fly. These aren't really bad units but to work well you need to more build your list around them rather than add them in to fill points.

DO NOT DROP WIZARD LEVELS. Vampire Counts should always have a level 4 over 1500 or so points. It is an army that is, literally, held together by magic.

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Normally units of 20 are just fine for me, I've been playing for years and I generally always run smaller units for more ground cover and the ability to dictate the game. Though i can see with the points invested in ghouls them falling shy, I can't however, justify 400 points on them when I can get zombies and skeletons, and grow. Ghouls are a good flanking core unit to get some damage in then die. Where as zombies and skeletons can if magic goes well hold a unit the entire game.

I will agree with you that the grave guard unit was too small. I generally run my TK's with 25 Tomb Guard, and thats usually too many, for how I play, however; I also have ushabti and other things that hit hard in the list so that is a large contributing factor as to why.

Shame the varghulf lost flying they suck now unless you take 3 as form a unit of them. As for the wraiths and banshee, it doesnt matter if they come from heros or rare choices, its all the same, just you have flexibility on where to take the points from, in this case it really doesn't matter.

This is the edit based on what you have said jono, and my personally prefferances let me know how you feel about it now.

Defiantly liking that better, 30 grave guard and a lvl4 lord are going to hurt
Personal preference but I still like the wraiths taken out of heroes so they can join units and let the ghouls or whatever take the hits from the magic missiles coming their way.
