So, I've conjured up a quick list composing of Imperial Guard allied with Grey Knights, exactly 2000 points. It's what I like to call an Anti-Horde list, built around murdering Tyranids, Orks, other IG, and even some Necrons. I've had a chance to try out this list against an infantry army of Orks before posting here, and I can say it works like a charm. Only one squad of Boys made it to my gun line, and even they didn't last long against a quick tank shock. So, here's the list:

Imperial Guard(53 models, 1475 points):
HQ:

Company Command Squad
80 points with the following upgrades:
Regimental Standard, Vox-Caster, Heavy Bolter

Lord Commissar
90 points with the following upgrades:
Power Weapon, Boltgun, Carapace Armor

Elites:

Storm Trooper Squad 1
95 points with the following upgrades:
2 Flamers
(Deep-Striking)

Storm Trooper Squad 2
95 points with the following upgrades:
2 Flamers
(Deep-Striking)

Storm Trooper Squad 3
95 points with the following upgrades:
2 Flamers
(Deep-Striking)

Troops:

Veteran Squad 1
100 points with the following upgrades:
Vox-Caster, 3 Grenade Launchers, Heavy Bolter

Veteran Squad 2
90 points with the following upgrades:
Vox-Caster, 3 Flamers

Veteran Squad 3
100 points with the following upgrades:
Vox-Caster, 3 Grenade Launchers, Heavy Bolter

Fast Attack:

Vendetta Gunship
140 points with the following upgrades:
Heavy Bolters

Heavy Support:

Leeman Russ Squadron
590 points with the following upgrades:
2 Leeman Russ Battle Tanks, Leeman Russ Punisher, 3 Heavy Bolters, Knight Commander Pask(Punisher)

Gray Knights(14 models, 525 points):
HQ:

Ordo Malleus Inquisitor
65 points with the following upgrades:
Terminator Armor, Storm Bolter

Elites:

Inquisitorial Henchmen Warband
140 points with the following upgrades:
4 Mystics, 4 Warrior Acolytes(Plasma Gun, Boltgun, Power Armor)

Troops:

Grey Knight Terminator Squad
320 points with the following upgrades:
4 Nemesis Falchions, Brotherhood Banner
(Deep-Striking)

So there you have it. Like a previous list I posted here, the strategy consists of setting up a gun line with my Inquisitor and the Imperial Guard, deep striking those Storm Troopers and Terminators right on top of the enemy, and having the Vendetta hunt down any Monstrous Creatures and Armor.

Feedback and suggestions are appreciated.

If your anti hoard you should have purifiers.

Cleansing flame is the bane of all hoards and they can take 4 psycannons making them a hoard hunting machine.

I would take those gk terms and make them a strike squad. Less points and they can still deepstrike.

Why take a commisar?

Also you shouldnt take 3 leman russ in 1 squad. Way too many as they target the same unit when they shoot.

You should take more vendettas. I would rather see 4 vendettas in squads of 2 than see 3 russes. 12 twin linked las cannons is insane. The leman ruses are much worse now than before as the FAQ slowed them alot.

I am a big fan of the leman russ executioner though.

I never really considered purifier squads, particularly because Termies make fantastic character hunters. A squad full of Force Falchions is the scariest thing a character with multiple wounds can see running at them. I will look into that, though.

I take a Commisar in case the shooting doesn't kill the bad guys and they reach the gun line. He keeps my veterans (whom are very squishy) from falling back.

Well, whenever I put them in a squad, they completely annihilate whatever unit I point them at. I don't see too much reason to divide them if I'm just going to be shooting at the same target all the time.

I would take more Vendettas, if I had that many models
I have a very limited budget, so I can't just go out and buy two more Valkrye sets from GW.

First off, there are a few things you need to think about.

What is the purpose of this list?

Is it build to only ever fight horde armies, or is it s TAC list with favored matchups against horde armies.
Basically are horde armies all you ever face or do you occasionally see something else?

Why do horde lists work?

Cheap bodies + Cover Saves = Lots of Durability.

The best horde lists are the ones that are able to have a lot of bodies and have consistent cover for them. The different major horde lists all approach this in different ways.

Ork Horde: they bring their cover with them in the form of KFF's and sceening units (Kans or grots usually)
Tyranid horde: lots of support and buffs from MC's, lots of bodies and untis from tervigons makes it easy to screen units and get cover saves.
Guard horde: Long rage firepower so they can make use of whatever cover is on their side of the table.

With that in mind, if these are the list you are focusing on, then your biggest concern should be weapons that are cost effective against cover.

Hellhounds and Dreadknights with Incinerators come to mind first.

Barrage weapons are able to get around screening units and hit those behind with no saves. Also, you can snipe out important models like a KFF with an on-target shot. Manticore is probably the best option there.

Purifiers are another consideration for pushing the horde away from your lines.

Weapons that put out a lot of shots (like a punisher) are just playing to the strengths of a horde list. They are getting their cover saves against that weapon.

It is very hard to table a horde list, so you need some ability to walk into the middle of the board and take away objectives. They can just sit in the middle of the map, in cover and weather your fire for the win.
