Hey all, I am more of a Fantasy player than 40K, but dusted off my Black Legion with the new Chaos codex and I am unsure if I am reading this correctly.

I've always been a fan of Noise Marines, I 5 with bolt pistol, ccw and sonic blasters has been great since 3.5 and was good in 4.0. NOW if I am reading this correctly, I can have either a CCW or a sonic blaster? Is that right? Please say it aint so. . . . what is the point of I5 if you can't combine sonic weaponry and close combat skills???

Thanks for any replies

Read page 98 again. You don't swap the ccw for the blaster you swap the bolter. Look 3 lines above that to see how to arm them to the max.

You can have a pistol, ccw and another gun.

It's not the size of the blade, it's how you use it.

Thanks for the reply LoB, and if that is how everyone is playing it, I am down for that . . . but that is not how it reads to me.

To quote from page 99 under a single bullet it says:
"Any Noise Marine may take a close combat weapon ......1 pt/model.
Or replace his boltgun with one of the following:
- close combat weapon .....free
- sonic blaster ....3pts/model"

To me that reads as you have 3 choices
1) add a CCW to your boltgun and bolt pistol
2) have a CCW and bolt pistol
3) have a sonic blaster and bolt pistol

So that is how it reads to me and that was why I posted the question. If the rest of Dakka is playing it as though option 1) and options 2) & 3) are mutually exclusive, then I have no problem : )

Yep, you're right; the model only gets a sonic blaster if he doesn't take the CCW option. To make it worse, the Noise Champion doesn't even have access to a regular CCW at all.

This unit entry is in absolute shambles, I hope GW fixes them in the next round of FAQs (rumoured to be a month or two away, IIRC).

Personally, I'd be happy to allow the Champion to take a CCW, at least. The lack of CCW on your sonic guys seems to be intentional to me, though.

Yeah, it looks exclusive to me too, and I really hope GW erratas it. Their editors really did a poor job on this book. The plague marine champion has a similar issue, where he's not allowed to trade out his plague knife for a special close combat weapon, so he has to either trade his bolter and lose his rapid fire capability, or lose his pistol and lose an attack. It's dumb.

I hope that errata does come in a month or two and give my noise marines the option of buying a CCW with my sonic blaster (which already became worse from 3.5 & 4.0 with the salvo rules). C'mon, you fixed terminators, right?
