Hi there, I'm Adam and I live in good old Great Britain (Lincolnshire to be specific). I've just joined the site after visiting a few times, it seems that whatever forum people are on, they always talk about this one.

I've been playing LOTR for a few years and have amassed a rather large collection across almost every realm. Recently I have been dabbling in 40k after buying stuff here and there for years but never playing.

I have some DA and Tau, but after a few games I really didn't like the playing styles. I've seen the leaked DA releases and they have totally turned me off (all except the Deathwing Knights), so have decided to try and shift a load of it off and start up a new army. I've been thinking IG, but want to have a look through a few Codex/Codices (??) and see if I can find something else I like.

The only GW thing I don't collect is WFB, but various people at my gaming club have been trying to persuade me. I've never had a go at any of the other gaming systems that are out there, simply because there's next to no-one that plays them here.

Anyway, I shall round off my introduction there, should anyone like to know more, just drop me a message!

Adam.

I do love tanks. And I can have lots and lots of them... Plus IG have the baneblades etc and they are truly mega models.

I just need to sell/trade all of my old stuff now to fund the new purchases.

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

Welcome to Dakka!

Choosing your army can be a really difficult first step, try and get as much information on one you might be interested in before going the whole nine yards on an army.

Phatom: I did think about Necrons, an old colleague of mine had started a collection for his son, but ended up keeping them for himself. They look supremely easy to paint (forget the over complicated GW guides, I'd just drybrush them several different metalics then pull out the detail.) I haven't looked into them a great deal, but I might pick up a codex and have a browse.

Rampage: Where are you?

I bought the IG Codex the other day and have been giving it a good read. I really like the way they are organised, with the Company Command, then separate platoons, each with a Command Squad. It feels a lot more militarily organised that the other forces. The only downside I can see is that the models are so cheap (points wise) that it will cost a fortune to build a big force.

I don't know a great deal about many of the other forces. I was tempted by a SM chapter, but everyone here has some sort of SM army. I think I dislike them because they are the poster boys for 40K. The upside to IG is that I could take a detachment of SM if I ever needed some decent close combat choices (which means I could theoretically use the new DW Knights in the future, providing that Belial still unlocks them as a troop choice)

If anyone has any other suggestions or wants to weigh in on different armies, please let me know.

Adam.
