Just after a few opinions on an assault squad i've just got, for the sergeant is it worth having a powerfist and shield for the points?
Is it worth adding a flamer to a 10 man squad?
Help please!

I wouldn't put a shield on him, but a powerfist can be good if you don't have much AT

flamers are a good choice you lose an attack but will usually be in range to cover the unit your assaulting.
powerfists are great on the rank and file but on a sergeant he's more likely to get challenged and killed before he gets to swing.

I have been using Paired Lighting Claws and Melta-Bombs on the Sergeant with great effect along with a pair of Plasma Pistols in the squad. Its not cheep, but they are great for Popping Transports and dealing with that Dreadnaught that I keep running into.
I have been experimenting with a Storm Shield and a Power Lance and finding it works ok. The initial 3 S5 AP3 attacks does good in challenges [and looks cool while doing it] and the 3+/3++ has made a difference.
Another good choice is a Power Maul and Plasma Pistol. It works real well at trashing a lot Armor and MCs.

My assault squad has been succesfull with a flamer. The sergeant has done well with a power weapon. I do use the combat shield if I have the points just because it looks nice but giving him a storm shield is a bit too much in my opinnion.

Of course it makes sense. When there are a bunch of BDSM clowns doing Olympic gymnast routines throughout your unit, while also cutting off heads, you tend to get a bit distracted.

Thanks all, looking at the new rules theres a high chance a sergeant will get killed before he has chance to use it, has 6th ended it's usefulness?
Is a sword and plasma pistol a better option for less points? or deploy with my libby to take the challenge?
I like the idea of lighting claws but am stuck with what comes in the box.

Talk to a Space Wolf Player, they should have plenty of extra Wolf Claws laying around.

Don't worry I'm not going to steal your claws! it's all a bit marvel for me anyway!
I'm just trying to work out the best option before I stick the arms on!

Would dual plaspistols and a couple of flamers be good (if you have the bitz) the plaspistols clear up any meq's while the flamers clear up any hoardes? (intended for DA in a 5 man squad, but the same principle.)
