I've found the 3rd edition of the WFB rules (with handouts and everything).

What are your impressions of the game?

It was awsome. You could build just about any type of unit you wanted. There were some holes in the rules, but most could be worked out. It was more of a for fun game than competative thing.

It's time to go full Skeletor

First version of the rules I played and the last ones before 8th ed. I don't remember a lot of it as it was over 20 years ago and I have done so many things since then that have eclipsed them.

Players back then seemed more open to the idea of using other companies' models than they are today. Fewer tourney douchebags (fewer tourneys in general).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

This seems to be slacking off in 8th, however. The 7th edition tournament mindset, and thus 100% GW models, left with the 7th edition tournament players, and the advent of some companies doing some fantastic Fantasy stuff. Just look at the Dwarf players scrabbling over the Avatars of War range (not to mention the WoC players looking for decent Warrior models). Look at the people doing full Fantasy armies with Kings of War models. Places like Raging heroes making jaw dropping replacements for tired old GW kits like the Witch Elves or terrible new kits like the Daemonettes.

8th edition seems to be the hobbyists edition.
