Has anyone else used the white rustoleum metal primer? I tried today and it seems to have worked really really well! Its only 4bucks a can!

I tested it on a plastic ork but I guess it will also be good on metal and fail cast.

Being a ork player I'm sick and tired of paying gw primer prices.

GW primers are great, but they are obscenely over priced. I use Duplicolor Sandable Primer, it's what a Golden Deamon winner uses and it's half the price as GW. The best thing about buying primer from other companies is that they come in color, so I'm sure you can find green primer and then give it a wash.

Duplicolor? Do they have that at home depot?
Yeah I'm so glad I found a cheaper alternative. Now I just need a home depot stile agrax earth shade!!

Absolutely.

Rustoleum is slightly more expensive than the Krylon I typically use, but still cheaper than any hobby specific primer.

And high quality too! I always like to joke about how my minis will never rust.... hehe...

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

It is insanely easy to beat GW quality, just look elsewhere for materials . Save the cash and buy krylon or Rustoleum. Also you can go to a hobby lobby or a home depot or a lowes and get basing materials at half the price and twice the bulk. Its like a win-win.

I checked them today and I have found its very easy to scratch off both the metal and plastic miniature.

Did you have this problem too?

I get mine from woodland scenics. When I saw the prices for the massive amount you get I couldnt believe how bad I was getting ripped off by GW (now I know)

Pretty new to 40k myself but I've been using krylon gesso spray, never used rustoleum but is it comparable?

I liked it a lot till it dried fully. Its looks awesome but it is very easy to scratch off.

That's what worries me about many generic primers - they're not designed to prime plastic. As far as I'm concerned, if a primer doesn't 'stick' to the underlying surface, then it's no use as a primer

I went and got a gw one today. I now think its worth the money.

I envy people who play grey knights who can prime a entire army with half a can.

Yeah, krylon will work fine. Just stay away from stuff that says its designed to be used on plastics (like krylon fusion, for example). They have more than their fair share of acetone in them, which will melt the features on your plastic models when applied too robustly.
