Yes and no. Hormagaunts rely on the enemy not having a terribly large amount of anti infantry aimed their direction, due to having no way to replenish losses. They are still a scoring unit, and if you're taking Hormagaunts, you're likely not taking Tervigons. So losing a lot of Hormagaunts is bad because you won't have much left to claim objectives. They're a weird unit that relies on its numbers and expenability to tarpit opponents, but the Tyranid army also relies on them being able to grab an objective, two things which are pretty mutually exclusive - you either tarpit something and die over turns, or survive to have a reasonable amount of models left to hold an objective. So yeah, Hormagaunts depend a lot on your meta. If your opponent has blenderdreads, flamers, battle cannons, etc, Hormagaunts are going to have a rough time not only tarpitting, but also claiming objectives. That said, running large broods of Hormagaunts does work, because you'll generally have enough bodies. The OP, however, does not have enough Hormagaunts to do this. I recommended more Tervigons and Termagants because he is closer to having the critical mass of those units you want most of the time.
