Hello Dakka community,

I am wanting to get into playing warmachine and I am interested in legion of everblight. What are some good models to get. I would like to be competitive so please feel free to throw suggestions

Get the Starter box for the faction, play maybe around 15-20 games to get a firm grip on the rules, and then expand to 25 points. Now, the models you get really depend on your playstyle. Each Warlock/Warcaster has their own spells and abilities that go great with certain models, so after you play a few games, flip through the LoE faction book and see what kind of models you like. Although it can be played casually, Warmachine/Hordes tends to be a more competitive kind of game no matter what you bring, so don't worry if your list is weak or not.

With that said, I shall back away slowly and ominously and disappear in a puff of smoke, then smuggle some fruit across the border in order to stay competitive with the veggie cartel.

For starting Legion you are in good shape.
1. Pick up the Faction Starting pack. Even if you end up not liking the caster, the models in the pack are often used.

2. Pick up the 2 player Hordes faction starter which is Legion and Circle. If you know someone starting Circle, you both save money. If you don't but you know people who play, often you can trade the Circle stuff for more legion models.

Regarding units. The units you want to consider for starting are Warmongers, Swordsman, Legionaires, Archers. Do not consider Grotesques or the Weapon team. All the solo's are excellent. Regarding specifics army lists, you can do some hunting on privateer press and pick up the Faction book asap.

I would avoid Warmongers and Archers as they fulfill niche lists.

There are several ways to build up the faction, but playing a lot of games early and getting a grasp of the rules is important. Know how the game works before you get too purchase happy.

After you have some games under your belt, there are a ton of guides on how to purchase and get the best bang for your buck. Choose a couple new casters to play with, and build up from there.

Faction Defining Models that every LoE player should have:
Shepherds
Forsaken
Deathstalkers
Ravagore
Scythean
Shredder

I highly recommend joining a Journeyman League at your LFGS if they are running one. They are a great way to learn the rules, get games in and play with newer players.

Also, do not feel discouraged if you lose a lot early on. ITS GOING TO HAPPEN! Losing is a part of the learning curve. Losing games is what builds your foundation and strengthens your skills and play. Take something from every game you play as a lesson and learn from it. In time, that knowledge will build and you'll start pulling out wins. Read Page 5, it'll help put the game into perspective.

Welcome to the game!

I'd recommend getting the heavy warbeast kit and magnetizing it for flexibility.

I'll second everyone here and say get the starter/ battle box and get some games played. This will help you understand what your playstyle will be in WM/H and what models to start buying.

I believe that this is the best part of WM/H. Each faction has Warcasters/Warlocks that can fit most styles of play.
