So I am completely new to 40k and Warhammar in general and I have just purchased the Dark Vengeance box set (Limited Edition) and scored a sweet Seraphicus. A buddy of mine is an experienced player and decided to go halfs with me on the set and I decided to pick Chaos as my half. This being said, I am giving him Seraphicus along with the Dark Angel army. Considering I wouldnt be able to use him. Out of curiosity I would like to know if what my half (All of the Chaos in the set) is WORTH compared to his Dark Angels and Seraphicus that came in the box. Is he getting more bang for his buck? Or are we both getting a equal split?

I appreciate the help guys! Cannot wait to break this game in and become an experienced player! Any answers will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
GUIDOgotDAKKA

He's getting more bang for his buck UNLESS you are getting the mini rulebook, dice and templates. In which case the both of your come out even and it's a win-win in my book.

Thanks for the help you guys! And thanks for the warm welcome! I am more than excited to get started!

On an off note, since I chose to go with Chaos I bought a box of Space Marines; any other recommendations as far as some staples go that be of some point use?

Paint. Glue. Brushes. A good light. Etc.. .

Get painting.

Don't stock up on masses of grey plastic that'll eventually seem intimidating to paint.

Build up your armies step-by-little-step. Play small skirmishes with what you have to get into the rules, even if they aren't legal armies yet.

That will ultimately get you get to the "big games" much faster. I promise.

That seems like a very valid point. Thanks bud!

Biggest thing I can recommend is play how you want to, use the units you want because you think they're cool, not because the internets says they are good. From my experience, any person can be good with whatever army they decide they want to win with, using the units they like. Also, if you haven't already done so, get the codex.

Have fun and welcome to the hobby.
