Deadly Dire Avenger
|
My girlfriend recently acquired some blood angels and is pretty new to 40k. I play Eldar and am not to sure on what upgrades and what not are worth it. She currently has:
Brother Corbulo
Honour Guard
1x Librarian (unassembled)
1x Furioso Dreadnought
1x Landspeeder
10x Assault Marines
10x Tactical Marines
Sanguinary Guard (new in box)
1x Rhino
5x Veterans
Like I said being an Eldar player I don't know what ways she should run things, and am not really to sure on what she she look at getting in the future. Thanks for any suggestions.

The first thing to buy would be a sanguinary priest or two that can be mobilized with a jump pack. Or buy a biker and paint it as a sanguinary priest.
The second thing to buy would be some special weapon packs. The assault marine squads will want either meltas or flamers.
Brother Corbulo is often used in drop pods with the sternguard since he can't be given a jump pack.
Beyond that, this looks like the core of a jumper list. I think that every jumper list needs multi melta attack bikes for anti vehicular/anti MC work. The synergy of bikes and
FNP in 6th is very good for the BA, and one of our few true advantages over other chapters.

He is effective enough. I'm not sure he's quite worth the 225, but making sanguinary guard troops is nice, as is the precision deep strike. He's not eternal warrior, though, so a single powerfist hit kills him.
I don't know how competitive she wants to be, but I feel that in 6th edition, you really want some ranged firepower. I like lascannons and mulitmeltas, but others like BA devs with ML. The ML are cheaper, but far less effective against hard targets like terminators or AV 13/14.
Note that I have had an enemy terminator squad pretty much eat my whole jumper list before, so be careful.

Ouch. We are just looking at friendly games for now. Our group of friends runs: Nids, Vanilla SM, Tau, Orks, and myself. So far she has only faced me and has had a lot of issues getting past my tanks and rangers.

Dante also gives hit and run. I like using him in friendly games. I would recommend that she pick up a vindicator or two. All the BA tanks that are on Rhino bases are fast, so they are a huge asset to the army in my opinion.

Hybrid mech is probably the best list the BA can field in 6th. Others prefer jumper lists, but I think pure jumper is too weak in HTH now with the nerfing of furious charge to be competitive as people think it is.
Fast vindis are nice, but it swear by the boring auto/las and believe it or not whirlwind. The whirlwind is nice and provide an St 4 AP 5 no cover save large blast barrage template. They will take care of the rangers nicely out the range of any space elf weaponry.

I would recomend a drop pod or 3. For her Vets (Guessing Sternguard) run them Combi meltas to burn a unit off the table turn 1 The Sanguinary Priests are a must nowadays. I like Dante but the I1 kills him for me. I would also say pick up a Few DC and a DC Dreadnought there power house Troop Slots that kill alot but fail to hold anything. I would convert the Honor Guard into Vets Also a chaplin there a solid HQ/Elite Slot I would also get a small Sniper scout squad. there effective and cheep and a nice thing to have in any army and Devistators are nice just so you can have some play room for upgraids in your regular squads as well as a hard hitting ranged unit and lastly I would get anouther Tac squad just so you can run 2 if you would like.

Do you ever go into a fight thinking "there's no point giving it my best, I'll get another chance later?"

Very nice. Lots to think about. How worth it is teleporting units like Termintators?

Terminators are never a bad idea. I personaly dont port them becouse I have the worst luck ever with them but a TT/SS Terminator squad is a beast at almost everything. they also go great with Land Raiders Thats also why I recomend Drop Pods becouse there safer and get almost any unit to drop in/port There something you want to get at a time but for now I would focus on building the core of your army. Find an HQ you like and 2 Troops. Then you can expand how you like. how I started many moons ago was getting that (1 HQ, 2 Troops) then looked at what I thought would be nice in the HS slot. Played around with Proxies to see what worked with my core then after I found one (My First HS was a Vindicator) I then went to Elites did the same thing. (My first Elite was a Dreadnought) then I went to Fast Attack and rinse and repeat after that Troops picking something you want to try and playing it to see how you like it. Dont get locked to 1 army type becouse if it works it workd but if not well your screwed kinda thing. It helps also becouse you dont feel rushed to buy models or like "oh well these looked cool but they suck" and now you will never play them again
