Long time lurker, and long time painter, finally getting around to sharing some and actually taking part in the community here. I finally got a lightbox during the holidays so figured there would not be a better time to take the plunge. Still haven't quite found the best camera settings (any advice gratefully received!) so will hopefully get better as time goes on as well.

These are from a roughly 2500 point Tau army I am just finishing up. The first full army I've managed to do in many years after mainly just doing single models and the box sets.

I'm going to try and put together some whole army shots to see if I can show the whole thing once I find a good space to get things set up!

Does that Kroot have a Tyranid as an attack dog?

Whoops, fixed the pictures above so you can see him clearer now. It's one of the plastic Chaos Warhounds from the GW Fantasy battle lines, I use them for my kroot hounds as I prefer the models. The little guy is one of the FB lizardmen archers, I just figured he could be a little Kroot mascot

Aww that's still badass.

Was going to say, if you had a little Tyranid, I was going to just cheer, that would be so awesome, but a warhound is awesome too =D

You're making me rethink my hatred of Kroot.. and now I want to put some in my army..

I found them a fun addition mainly because they were different to paint and model after Suits, Devilfish and all the Firewarriors. It broke up the project nicely ... and I simply fell in love with the FW Great Gnarloc model and simply had to have one, cost be damned, as a feature piece for the army. Then he kinda needed some friends to go to war with so I did a full set of Kroot and hounds.

I feel like as a Tau player it'd be fun to play a full Kroot army as the Allied Detachment haha

I'd be all over a full Kroot codex! Or even just a WD listing as allies or something. I did see a homebrew codex for an entire Kroot army a while back, but never tried to use it.

It was definitely interesting, I read it awhile ago.

I like the Kroot, its just, I don't know, I never feel the need to use them. I also didn't think I could really convert much about them, this thread kinda proved me wrong. One of these days after I'm done converting my main force and building/painting it I may start into a Kroot subsection (thanks to you inspiring me, jerk <3).

... any time

Kroot are fun! I like having them as an option, just because they mix stuff up from a regular Tau force.

Glad to see you've had as much fun converting Kroot as I have, there are so many possibilities since many bits from Fantasy work well with their primitive technology. I like the idea of each shaper having a 'pet' on the base with them for decoration, it really adds a lot of character. I would steal that idea if my shapers didn't all have eviscerators, it seems more appropriate as a hunter-pet type of relationship.
