Hey guys, a few friends are looking to get into Warmachine/Hordes and I figured this would be a good time to jump in myself. I just finished reading the rulebook cover-cover and I have a very rudimentary understanding of the way the game works. We're planning on starting small with 15, and escalating points as we learn the rules. I threw together a list of Ret based on what I thought looked cool, and hopefully it synergizes, but quite honestly I'm taking shots in the dark. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Just a btw, my friends are starting Circle and Khador.

Kaelyssa +7 Jack

Phoenix-10 Points

Ghost Sniper-2 Points

Mage Hunter Strike Force-7 Points
-Strike Force Commander (2)

Eiryss, Angel of Retribution-3 Points

15 Points

Chimera-6 Points

Mage Hunter Assassin-2 Points

Ghost Sniper-2 Points

25 Points

Stormfall Archers-5 Points

Up MHSF-3 Points

2 Arcanist-2 Points

35 Points

Obviously the plan is be generally stealthy and shooty, and let the jacks handle (hopefully what's left) of melee. Is this a viable strategy? The book leads me to believe that melee will necessarily ensue, and these poor little dudes arn't great fighters.

Here's my two cents, however, this is only based on about a dozen games:

15 pts.

Eiryss and the Ghost Sniper seem to be the linchpin here. Looks pretty solid to me; however, I would prefer a few more bodies personally.

25 pts.

At this point you should at least have 1 Arcanist, if not two. They are indispensable for what they can bring to the table. Also, this may be opinion, but our light jacks really only benefit us when they're arc nodes in my experience. With that said, I would probably grab an Arcanist and a Hydra to add to your 15 point list as Hydras in my experience can help with managing focus with their Kinetic Battery.

35 pts.

Stormfalls are always a good choice as they bring a lot to the table. Instead of upgrading the MHSF, I would venture to say grabbing another unit as if I'm not mistaken, you get the UA for free from her Tier.

These are just my opinion based on my playstyle. I like to hammer jacks with MHSF and Stormfalls while using Eiryss and Snipers to strike fear into the enemy caster. Good luck!
