So I'm looking for some advice. My wife and I have decided to give an RPG a try. To start off with it will be just the two of us, but we aren't sure what one to go with or where to really start. I know she want a fantasy one over sci-fi but after that really not sure. Any help, advice, and/or opinions would be apprecieated. I think we are mainly trying to decide between Exalted, Pathfinder, D&D, and Iron kingdoms.

Two people don't feel like enough. I'd recommend a minimum of 4 - three players, one GM, to ensure good group dynamic and allow the 4th person to focus on gamemastering.

As for the game itself ... for fantasy, I'd actually recommend the Dragon Age RPG. The setting is fresh and intrigueing, and the game mechanics are incredibly easy to learn (perfect for newcomers) yet, thanks to the clever "Stunt System" (which allows you to spice up your actions if you succeed a test and have rolled doubles), never actually feel boring.

Aside from the basic box (this alone is awesomely oldschool!), a couple other products have been released by now, including the Set 2 box (definitively recommended for the additional options) and some free downloadable material.

Needless to say, this stuff is best if you've played and loved the Dragon Age games, but the books contain lots of fluff about the game world already, so already knowing the world is just a bonus as it helps with expectations and to visualise things better.

For mood attunement, the "Dawn of the Seeker" DVD might be a potential alternative to playing the games themselves:
Spoiler:

If you'd prefer Mass Effect, I've written a conversion using the DARPG rules that needs some playtesting ...
