I received a Space Marine Megaforece for Chirstmas and I was looking for imput from Dakka as to what should be made of it.

I currently have a 9k Blood Angels army. I do not have a Land Raider Redeemer , but other than that, have just about every codex entry. I was thinking the one thing I don't have is Allies (Battle Brothers...I could ally with Tau, but don't really want to.) I went back and forth a lot of what kind of marines the allies would be. Dark Angels are out. My Blood Angels are a homebrew chapter with mixed iconography from blood angels and dark angels, so the markings on a dark angels army would be too similar. My most frequesnt gaming partner plays space wolves, so not going there either, and I'd really like the entire ally detachment to be made from the Battleforce and my collection of SM bits (ending around 1,500pts I think, depending on how everything is built.) Someone also bought me a Stormtalon, just to add on to this.


My first idea was just to have Ultramarines as allies. Get all the special characters and everything, but that Idea got expensive very fast. Then I looked at Salamanders. I really liked the fluff and the additional rules with hot weapons and hammers, but I don't really have the bits to take advantage. I have some meltaguns, but 0 Multimeltas, and then I was thinking I could make all my BA Landspeeders into Salamander speeders with MM and that Idea takes away from the army I am proud of, so I kinda put that on the backburner.

My last idea was a custom Vanilla Marine chapter as a complete joke. Chapter name: Space Bros. The entire concept being to make them like college frat boys in space, which I kind of consider SM to be already, lol. That idea kind of Snowballed into many smaller Ideas...

1.Chapter Master with Banner: "BROS BEFORE XENOS!:
2. Sholder Pad Icon of Beer Mug
3.Model some tacticals to be "Fist Bumping" maybe even 2 with power fists...

and when I have an idea I have to make something of it to cement it as "real" to me, so using extra bits I currently have I made a Space Bros Librarian-




The other sholder pad says "Libby 4 Life"

Is this too Goofy/Silly? Are the Ultramarines special characters worth the $ and comitting to really making a another army? Should I go with Salamanders and just get Vulcan and use the bits I have to make as much with his army wide special rules as I can? Or even convert the Blood Angels I have that would work better as Salamanders over as you don't ever really need 9k of a single army...OR DO YOU, and I should just add some more to my Blood angels ( would be 5th and 6th tactials or could do 1 as JP-less assault marines, 2nd drop pod, 3rd razorback or 6th rhino type tank, captain, new command squad and the new land rader Redemmer)

Also, I am still waiting on this to arrive in the mail, but does anyone have it to confirm the land raider can be build with the flamstorm option? On GW page it says it's a crusader and I don't think I have the leftover flamstorms from the oter LR I built, but if I remember correctrly, they were on the same sprue, so it would be hard to to include them with the stuff to build the crusader.

Would running the Salamanders Tac squads with a Melta and Missle Launcher be a big waste? Where would be a good place to get Multimelta bits online if I go that route?

Space Bros all the way. We need more chapters like that hahahaha (less special snowflake super serious chapters and more of THAT)

I could do Space Bros and crate my own Vulcan count as. I just feel like I would need/want to get some th/ss terminators and multi meltas if I go that route. I also feel like I lack anti-light infantry dakka/ sheer numbers of shots currently. But flame templates could fill that role somewhat I guess.

Space Bros should like gak-tons of fun. Fun is good.

In fact, I'm putting together my own first army, using Dark Angels, and now I'm totally sold on thinking of some tongue in cheek successor chapter.

Its your army so do it how you want, a more humorous version of the SM's would be good though.

And yes, the Crusader/Redeemer are both in the same kit, they are effectively the same tank, jsut one is guns and one is flamers - I had two Rdeeemer kits so my LR Ares uses twined flamestorm cannons in its sponsons instead of heavy flamers (didnt have those to hand!)

I know normally both builds are contained in the same kit, but the megafoce only mentions containing a LR Crusader, which is why I was asking.

I just found a way to make pretty good looking Multi Meltas by using 2 meltaguns and sticking them side by side.... I am thinking more and more about Salamanders. I do really love the Idea of Space Bros. So I think the decision may be to use them as Salamanders. I will look into the reality of making a count as for Vulcan or just bit that 1 bullet and buy him. Other than that, just give out as much fire, melta and Hammers as possible...Thining of x2 thunder hammers for my Chapter Master if I go this route.

Any thoughts for other Banners for Space Bros? Would like something written on the side of the Stormtalon( WHICH SHOWED UP TODAY!) and 1 small banner on the Tactical Sgt, I for the Ironclad Dread (Kit looks like it comes with a banner). The Chapter master gets, "Bro's Before Xenos," but I was trying to come up with some other funny ones. HELP DAKKA!

Only idea was for the Dread, and the banner was "I'm kind of a big deal," but I'm not super impressed with myself on that one.

Worked out a Space Bros tactical. I'm going with the 2 popular opinions, people votes for Salamanders but posted about the Space Bros idea. The will be modeled as Space Bros, my Salamanders Successor chapter.
