Tied and gagged in the back of your car

So, it's been a loooooooong time since I've painted anything, being busy to the point of insomnia (seriously, it's gotten to the point where I pretty much live in my own timezone) this past semester. But being the break and all, I finally got to catch up on my mini painting... well, not really catch up, since that would be impossible.

Anyways, the specimen on display here is the Kingdom Death Twilight Knight, and it's an amazing model. Easily one of my favourite models to paint, period. Anyone who enjoys painting miniatures should try to get a hand on one of these guys, they're marvelous. Very simple and subdued, but beautiful all throughout.

Please forgive the poor quality photos, it's the best my little phone can do, especially with my current lighting conditions. Funny story; I essentially was painting this model in the dark, then running over to the bathroom every five minutes (the only room in my apartment with decent light) to make sure whatever I had painted looked right. It was... an experience.

I kept the colours pretty much the same as the concept art, and went with NMM for the armour. The cloak was airbrushed, but it didn't look right in the really sketchy lighting/photography I had going on, so you don't get to see that in these photos, sadly. I decided to keep the base very simple, to fit with the subdued nature of the Twilight Knight himself. The snow works really well with his skin tone, and fits the feeling of the model. The face was probably the hardest part. I wanted to keep him as pale as possible (fitting with the concept art), while also making sure it had some proper definition. Combined the fact that I was painting in the dark, and it was a very difficult task to make sure everything looked right. The facial tone is mostly white mixed with just a touch of various levels of green, grey, and red.

Thoughts?

Next up on my list is the KD Forsaker, and one more mini which is a surprise. Might be a while though, since I hurt both of my arms a bit, and can't properly hold a mini without a lot of shaking right now.

This is gak. You should stop painting imediately. I hate you and your painting. Blah.

No, this is brilliant. For a re-entry into painting, It's better than any first-return model I've ever done.

I hear you....
Haven't touched a brush in weeks.
Great that you found the time to paint this fantastic miniature.

I like the dark and gritty feel to it.
Really well done.

I have seen better snow covered bases though.
I think it would look better if you could still see some rocks/grass/anything sticking out under the snow.

But that's just some minor critique.

Not to be glib, but you've done a great job.

From the waist up it's fantastic and you've actually given me the idea of painting some of the KD miniatures as though they have porcelain face masks. The rings hanging from his belt somewhat blend into the tunic. I'm reasonably sure that it's just a lighting/camera issue and that in-person the whole thing is spectacular but at first glance they weren't noticeable to me.

Your deviation from the concept art with the sword hilt and hand wraps also gives Twilight Knight a needed (in my opinion) break with color.

never seen a character like that before. Absolutely love the natural pose of the figure (as opposed to the statuesk poses of GW models). The muted dark colors compliment the model perfectly...excellent work

That guy is amazing. I am really looking forward to receiving my Kingdom Death models, but alas that's a long way away...
