Hi all, So my friends and I are trying to get ourselves psyked about a new year of 40k and after looking at the planet strike and planetary empire books, we decided that we'd rather create some rules that can be used with 6th edition at their core for the basis of the campaign and will eventually incorporate the numerous special rules placed in the book for special missions. Essentially so far we have decided that as the campaign goes on, XP is essentially the total Victory Points captured from the battles played (FIrst Blood = 1 VP, Objectives are worth what they are worth in the game) as each battle will be ~ 2,000 - 3,000 and will represent part of an essential battle to capture a planet, trade route, scout post, etc. (All Purge the Alien Missions must be re-rolled and are ignored as they are only thematic missions that will be multi-player apoc games to decide the outcome of battles for control of a sector). We haven't figured out a mechanic for balancing out how many XP would go to someone who is a game behind to balance it, but all the things to spend your army's accumulated XP on were strongly decided to never directly interrupt the flow of a battle in progress or offer any bonuses that are unbelievable or have any kind of permanent effect on the campaign, rather winning battles grants you the ability to direct the offensive of the next battle to come while ultimately the games are always balanced within the points system of 40k. So here is the XP chart we have come up with so far for anyone who has similar ideas so hopefully we can create an unofficial campaign system for small groups of people who play regularly: VP = Victory Points 1 VP for participating in a battle 1 VP for all secondary objectives completed in each battle Each Primary Objective will be worth the amount of VPs designated within the description of the scenario. The winner of each battle will receive a +/- 1 they may apply to the die roll on the mission chart in their next game (Represents maintaining the initiative). VPs can only be spent once and, outside of keeping a grand total of all points earned for determining placing at the end of the campaign, are to be considered lost once spent on upgrades from the following chart valid only once in your next battle (If the bonus is not used then it is lost; all bonuses must be paid for and written on your army list before the first roll of the game commences to be subtracted from your available XP at the end of the game [if you end any battle in a negative {you can never willingly lower your VP total to less than -2}, then you yield double VP as your army has been sent to rout and forgot part of its infrastructure]). There is no limit to how many times a bonus can be purchased for a game unless it has an * in which case it can only be purchased once per battle. Pre-Game Bonuses: The Next Step 2 VP: Modify Upcoming Game Mission roll by +/-1 (5 vp for +/- up to a total of 3) The Initiative 2 VP: Modify Upcoming Deployment type roll by +/-1 (5 vp for +/- up to a total of 3) Warmaster 3 VP: Modify Warlord Trait Roll by +/-1 (8 vp for +/- up to a total of 3)* Divine Favor 6 VP: Modify a Single Psycic Power roll by +/-1 (16 VP for up to a total of +/- 3 over a maximum of three power rolls; mastery level 4 psykers must use their bonus before rolling for last power or considered it lost)* In Game Bonus Just where I left it 8 VP: Modify a single mysterious objective roll by +/- 1 Nuts 8 VP: Re-roll a single deep strike mishap (Not the scatter, just the mishap table roll; the second result must be accepted).* Others: I am become death... 2 VP: If you are the victor of the upcoming battle, then you receive 5 VPs* We are trying to figure out how this system could be used to implement the extra special rules that have been created by GW but never directly put in the core missions (i.e. zero gravity, fighting in a vacuum, etc) as a means of further establishing the winning army maintaining the initiative while never unbalancing any given game, but we'll need to play test a little before I am comfortable even thinking of a VP value to attach to them. Essentially the Campaign will represent a tug of war between the Eye of Terror and Holy Terra, the campaign will start out roughly in the middle of the latest black crusade. Each victory for a Chaos based team (My friends and I have decided to shelve our xenos armies till we can refine this a bit and branch it out, it just makes more sense right now for this to be just in two directions till we get it refined; seems to be a rule anyway: The longer you play this hobby, the odds of you getting some kind of space marine army approach 1) will shift the scale one planet towards Terra and each Victory for an Imperium of Man based army will shift the scale one planet towards the Eye of terror. Once either destination is reached, an apocalypse battle is scheduled to determine the results of the crusade. *** This is all we have now, but I'll keep tweaking it here as we discuss and refine it for those interested; and I'd much appreciate (and gladly discuss with the group) if anyone has any input or improvement suggestions. We haven't had a chance to play test the value of the Bonuses as we just came up with this in our circle tonight.
