I am looking for some AA for my late war German army and i don't know what to get between the SdKfz 7/1 (Quad 2cm) or the 88mm flak36.
im looking at the 2 and i can use the SdKfz 7/1 (Quad 2cm) to shoot at infantry and it gets all shots at aircraft where the 88 i can use it as antitank but as i read the rules it only gets 1 shot at aircraft.
so witch is the best to use?

In the embrace of great Nurgle, i am no longer afraid, for with His pestilential favour i have become that which i once most feard: Death.

I would take a Mobelwagon (the 3.7cm gun) due to its longer range and greater FP.

Depending in your list you may not need any AAA at all. Panzers don't really need AAA if you make use of cover (as you should do anyway). The only lists where I take AAA is companies with more than 1 artillery battery.

A lot also depends on if the people you play with like air.

Do not underestimate the Squats. They survived for millenia cut off from the Imperium and assailed on all sides. Their determination and resilience is an example to us all.

Its just a shame that they couldn't fight off Andy Chambers.

I rate the armoured quad 2cm as an all rounder and the unarmoured 2cm (SdKfz 10/5) for cheapness.

The 88 is pretty poor at AA and should not be your only AA asset on the table if you can help it.

It really depends on what I'm taking when I decide on AA. 2cm if it's truck mounted, the shorter range is offset by the mobility. 3.7cm if it's fixed or if you're up against Russians and their 'flying tanks'

8.8cm is pretty much useless as AA in this game. The bombers it was designed to destroy are not featured in FoW and so they're pretty much just AT in game terms.

I think it depends on what you need in your army, my AA is often there to be HMG's for instance as i normally have lots of AT, but if you don't have much AT when maybe go for the 88's

I'm backing George Spigott on this one, Palindromes points on the utility of the 3.7cm is spot on, but I prefer to roll a bucket of dice because if i don't hit the target in the first place, nothing is happening and the more dice the more likely I will get that critical 6.

Also the firepower of 5+ although not great, is much better than MG's when you are firing on dug in infantry, the AT 5 is also pretty awesome against softskins and transports.

I would never take unarmoured self propelled AA, they are trivially easy to kill and they need to get close to do any damage. In effect they are a free victory point.

If you take AA either take something armoured or towed AA that can be dug in next to whatever it is that you want to protect. The other option is to take air of your own.

Several German LW lists have no air options and I found my Allied opponents are far too busy shooting at the rest of my army to pick on those little opel trucks hanging around the rear, plus, army-wide veteran status is nice.

IMO Allies are fine to go without AA, Germans with limited air support of their own and very juicy heavy tanks almost require it, unless you're footslogging or doing a PZIV (or equiv) armour ko.

Don't forget that the un-armoured ones have been errata'd and now have gun-shield (firepower test to destroy) s they're a little more resilient.
