Hello, I am currently in the middle of starting a 2nd army, and decided to go with Tau. I would like to go with a more "Samurai" theme for my more elite troops (special characters/ commanders), so not everyone in the army will be "Samurai". However I am not sure in how to obtain Samurai bits that would fit a Tau, without sculpting it for I am not experienced in that. I did find out about ASHIGARU stuff from Wargames Factory, but I don't know how they differ in size to a Tau model. Any help in this endeavor would be most appreciated.

Urban Mammoth has a future Japanese faction:

I use this one as the battle suit of my old Tau general:

Infinity has an Asian faction with a Japanese sub-faction:

Kromlech has a few cyber samurai bits, but intended for Space marines:

Hoard o'Bits sells Wargames Factory Ashigaru bits.

And you might also be interested in some bits by Zealot Miniatures that can be used for female Tau:

You have found one of the better sources of stuff for what you are looking to do - IIRC, there is a thread in the projects area here showing a Japanese themed IG army to give you an idea of how things would match up with Tau (both IG and Tau are comparable in size).

The short though - is that they will work well enough.

In addition to those - you have lots of different Japanese styled miniatures which are not historical. Mutant Chronicles, Metropolis, L5R and a couple of other game systems use samurai in a sci-fi or fantasy setting. Kroothawk linked to the bits from Kromlech - you can also find bits from other companies as well (think Paulson has some).

A lot of Tau stuff isn't too hard to sculpt. Because of the style used - you can get away with a lot of geometric shapes that are easy to "machine" as opposed to actually sculpt. Plasticard, a ruler and a steady hand can get you a good way down the road.
