So my friend has been running a chaos space marine army that has three fully decked out and winged deamon princes. I play space wolves but I just can't touch those princes and they eat me for breakfast. I play space wolves, any ideas?

Are any of the DPs equipped with black mace or axe of blinding fury? usually its best to shoot them down before they can even consider getting in cc with you

unfortunately you can only really do 1 thing vs Daemon Princes. Shoot them down, Space Wolves can be an extremely shooty codex, take advantage of GH's plasma gun options, and Long Fangs.

MSU cause those grounding checks with a bunch of small units which will also limit any overly powerful weapons in cc

What do the Princes do that gives you that much trouble? Sure the Brand or Wind of Chaos can cause much pain to footslogging meqs but WoC is really short ranged and he can only have 1 Brand ever. The normal way to deal with FMCs is do ground them with small arms fire and then unload the heavy weapons upon them. This shouldn't be that hard for SWs, just focus a unit of Longfangs on the first grounded DP and he should die. If you have any S10 (Vindis come to mind) you can even instagib CSM DPs as they do not have eternal warrior.

btw 3 DPs are the maximum in every game under 2k points if CSM are his main contingent. 2 as HQs and 1 as allied CD HS.

Playing mostly Necromunda and Battletech, Malifaux is awesome too!

He could have a bloodthirster which is almost like a 4th DP.

Arguably better

Although If I were dead set on running 4 "princes" while taking CSM main and CD allies, I'd do so like this.

Nurgle Prince Wings/pa-220
Nurgle Prince Wings/black mace/pa-265

Lord Of Change-250
5xPlaguebearer-75
Prince MoT Wings Gaze/Breath-215

Shoot them down with small arms fire. Multiple small squads are what your looking for, so combat squad. Your goal is to cause him to fail grounding checks.

Once this has been done, shoot it with lots of missile launchers, or anything that will wound reliability and deny's the armor save.

Space Wolves cannot use Combat Squads. (nor do they have Combat Tactics, because only those girly Ultrasmurfs would think of running from an epic scrap! )

As a Space Wolf player, use your small arms as mentioned. You only need to roll 1 actual hit to force a grounding test, which the Chaos player will then fail 33.3% of the time.

Instead of always loading up Longfangs with max missiles, add some Heavy bolters and use your split fire rule to nail both transports AND the flying gribblies in the early turns. You can always put the Heavy B's in the front of the squad as well to help reserve your missile for latter tagging grounded Princes.

Try taking some Swiftclaws. Sure they're normally a bit overcosted, but they come with Twin-Linked weapons, and their lower BS3 makes no difference when targeting swooping MC's.

Overall, flying MC's are easier to deal with than vehicle flyers, as average odds are that every third unit hitting them grounds them.

These guys are actually one of the hidden gems that got a nice boost with 6th.

Being able to get saves when going through difficult terrain. Hammer of wrath. Being base toughness 5 on attack bikes.
Swiftclaws are extremely good units.

A lone wolf really helps. If you can get him in a position near a DP that you're trying to ground the LW can jump on the DP when it falls down and make mince meat of him.

Other than that, I agree with everything else, MSU and shoot the gak out of them just like SW do best.

I would argue for a guard alliance too. A platoon has 3 squads to force grounding checks, with rerolls from the CCS, or RP. A vendetta can also butcher them in the air.

Star Trek taught me so much. Like, how you should accept people, whether they be black, white, Klingon or even female...
