They both feel a bit generic. This is probably carry over from decades of playing TTGs with highly polarized factions, coupled with the restrictions of 150 pt games.
Are there troops that seem inherently Haqqislamish that I should be making use of?

Imo, a FIday makes a Haqqislam list. A Fiday is a nasty unit that will make your opponent sweat when he is trying to deal with him. Even when you don't do much with him, he is still intimidating to your opponent simply because of the things he can do.
