Over the holiday season I got my hands on one of the sweet Ork Bommer kits, and thought I would be doing a Burna-Bommer with all six skorcha rokkits. Unfortunately, I hadn't calculated the points correctly and realized this would be too much for my army, and decided to go with a Dakkajet instead. However, I had already glued the grot gunner in place. Can I add the extra wing-gun extensions and say that the Grot acts as the big shootas and is only there for decorative purposes, or would leaving it there be considered modelling to an advantage?

You can most certainly do that. The beauty of the orks is if it looks cool then no one will question it. I have a dakka jet with the three twinlinked guns on it as well as the grot gunner cause I liked him. No one will call you on it, I promise. And if they do just explain why it is the way it is.

you could always make it look like the grots gun is malfunctioning or something funny like that with orks; everything is possible

Just make it look Cool No One will care.

If they do complain, find someone else to play with.

My Dakka Jet has every gun in the kit on it including the grot gunner. No one ever questioned what it actually had- it was just the 3 dakka guns.

As others have said - most people won't bother you except in a tournament setting...orks get a pass on almost anything as long as it makes SOME sense.
