Subject: Lone wolf or dreadnought?

I have a footslogging list with 3 drop pods. To complement this, is a heavy flamer dread as viable as a kitted out lone wolf?
I'm thinking HF + TLHF dread would be serious pain on the turn it drops, but would a TDA CF lone wolf be better? In an all takers tourney army which would you take and why?
Bear in mind, the dread would be the only tank other than the drop pods in my list...

I would take the Lone Wolf without question.

^ This is the reason why.
Thanks to Hull Points, that Dreadnought is doomed, and you're giving up an easy kill point. You're better off taking the Lone Wolf, as the mayhem they can cause will easily rival that of the Dreadnought; but the Lone Wolf can take some Fenrisian Wolves for additional ablative wounds. Not to mention the lack of kill points being given up by the Lone Wolf.

Do you want more anti-infantry or a massive middle finger?

Both very good points. With some minor tweaking I could instead have an extra long fang ML and a TDA CML giving me 3 extra missile launcher attacks. Would you take that over the lone wolf?

I'm a guard player, missile launchers to me are nothing. I'd pick the giant middle finger.
What would you have to fudge to fit the TDA w/ CML & LF w/ ML?

My current list has a HF dread with TLHF in a drop pod, but I'm finding the single dread as the only armour is not really working great. So thats 115 points I can use for something else, which is why I was thinking of CML termie joining the long fangs, and then I can increase the size of the long fang pack too. Or I could go another route and get a lonewolf with TDA, CF, SS and a couple of wolves to boot. I actually like this idea more as it gives me something else other than just increasing the effectiveness of an already effective long fang pack.

I'm inclined to go with this option, as the SW answer to almost everything, is whenever possible, take more Long Fangs.
However, if I might present yet another option: take another Rune Priest if you can afford it. After the Vendetta, a Rune Priest might be the most undercosted model in 40k right now.

As for the original argument, I would go with lone wolf all the way over a dread.
A wolf guard in TDA with a cyclone is also a great choice, as he can buffer fire from your long fangs(which most people will shoot the bejesus out of).
The rune priest is not bad either.

The most important rule of 40K-Page XVII of the 6th edition rulebook, the figure at the top right of the page. "Shake hands with your opponent and thank them for a good battle and fun experience." Then go out for a beer.

Already have a runepriest, he's a 1+ choice for all my armies I like the combo of divination on the longfangs for precisence, and then his second power of jaws for when things get closer

Uh, I don't think that's how it works.
You have to choose either all book powers, or else all codex powers. You can't mix & match.
Also: take another Rune Priest. You can have 2x per HQ slot. Give one LL & Hurricane and give the other one LL & JotWW. Some Divination powers are nice, but it's really tough to do better than the SW's already-really-good codex powers.

Yes youa re right, sorry I misread the FAQ:
Psychic Powers
A Space Wolves Rune Priest (including Njal Stormcaller) may
use the psychic disciplines found in the Warhammer 40,000
rulebook, instead of those in Codex: Space Wolves. If he does so,
generate two new powers from the Biomancy, Divination or
Telekinesis disciplines (in any combination) before armies are
deployed.
I read that as meaning I can swap between any powers, not just between the BRB powers.
I dunno then, I guess I like prescience on my long fangs, and maybe I can roll the ignore cover or 4+ inv on divination. If I go SW powers, Jaws and LL are the ones of choice as LL has no range and jaws is just awesome. Hitting with D6 S7 and 5 missile launchers ought to take most things down, might even be able to take a flyer down with that if I get lucky. I do think that paying 100 pts just for prescience alone is not worth it, so might be worth going MoR so he can prescience and use another power in the same turn. Imagine being able to choose powers? Prescience and Biomany Endurance on lang fangs, 5 missile launchers that re-roll to hit, have feel no pain and relentless... ouchie.
