So, the local GW is now allowing FW in tournaments. Luckily, I have been working on converting some Empire Hellstorm blasters into Rapier batteries, and was wondering if these looked like an "acceptable" conversion. If it wouldn't work, please leave a suggestion on how I could make it better. Thanks.

i think for a convincing look you should have more than just one muzzle of a lascanon sticking out...

or am i not getting the weapon system right?

otherwise this is a conversion i have often thought making my own too...

Your right, it would have 4 lascannon muzzles. But I plan on making 3 of these and am dangerously low on lascannons. Do you think two would work, or should I go for all 4?

I am thinking of adding cables running to the barrels around the muzzle to have them be the focusing lasers, and have the lascannon be the one which actually fires.

the cables idea sounds good to me... as for making more muzzles... have you access to plastic card rods? you could scratchbuild those muzzles with ease...

Nope, no plasticard rods. I will see if I can do two muzzles per gun, that may work.

Eh i'd be a bit iffy about using that as a proxy. It still looks like a HVC with Lascannon barrels tacked on to me and not enough like a rapier.

Also just out of interest, when the rules say "no Forgeworld" does it mean no Forgeworld models allowed or no Forgeworld rules allowed?

You can use FW rules as long as you have the model. Which is why I want to convert this the best I can so I can use it. I would prefer to not shell out $41 a gun, so I want to convert one the best I can.

It looks like exactly what it is, and that looks kinda silly. It's just a lascannon jammed into a renaissance-era artillery piece. If your Guard are themed similarly it could be okay, but I don't really buy it.

Ah grunt, nevermind about my rules question. I read your op wrong and thought you said the tourny "is not" as opposed to "is now". Which is why i asked about the rules. Because i thought you were converting up a unit you wouldn't be able to use.

Yah. I would say negatory. A lot of forge world units are very very powerful and very points efficient. They dont have to be the exact model but you definitely need to put some effort in to make them as close as possible.

May the WAAC and pretzels be with you.
