Hello fellow friends of Warhammer and Warhammer 40k. I have a question, maybe two. I was going to build up a pre heresy Death Guard army but I dont like the vanilla codex as there are no really good rules which I could use ^for my Deathshroud Guard. Now there is the new Dark Angels Codex, well it has the rules for the Dark Knights (not sure if correct name) which seem interesting. I'd like to ask if I could technically run the DG army with the DA Codex? What should I addapt? Would you personnaly play against such an army?
Thanks for any answers.

Personally, if the counts as is done well, I have no issues. I only hate when people bring a full 1500 point army and say its something else and spend all game explaining what's what.

If you go "These bikers are my ravenwing.." and I can believe it by looking at them, I don't have any issues, and in fact some counts-as armies are just as, if not more, cool than the main army.

The good thing is you're plotting beforehand, that's important for counts-as stuff, better to build your army knowing its a counts-as than to have to make it up later.

Counts-as is pretty well accepted as long as it is clear what your models are and all of the weapons are WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get).

The clearer and easier it is for your opponent, the more accepted it will be.

That being said, there are no 'rules' for counts-as.

Personally, I would save my dosh up and buy The Horus Heresy: Book One Betrayal from Forge World. It has the Legion army list in it with an additional separate section with unique rules for the Death Guard, including your beloved Deathshroud. You could proxy them as DA yeh, I'd play you. Why go to the extent of getting fancy expensive toys and not being allowed to use them? The HH route seems a better choice however, but yeh sure, go ahead.

The Rout, Vlka Fenryka, Warrior Kings of Fenris.... the Space Wolves. Horus Heresy. Sixth Great Company. 1500pts. In progress.

We'll thanks for the advices!

@crimsonfist well yeah I'd like to buy that book but there is a problem. Here where I live, nobody wants to play against a FW rulebook army.
Plus the DA Codex is cheaper

@ Shadowclaimer Building something to be obvious enough for what its a Counts as, is something which I would certainly do. Its a matter of respect , in my opinion. But nevertheless thanks for your answer too

Just be careful with this if you are thinking of going to every try and go to tourneys. I've actually had to decline a tourney because I was told that I would not be able to "counts as" at all.
I've never had this problem with casual play.

Really? I'm curious. Was the tournament no 'count as' at all or did they decline your army? Did they allow non-gw models, etc?

I had a similar idea for my army, given that I'm running a pride of the legion blood angel force I intend to run them as Deathwing in my standard 40K games (local players have agreed) so I can get the most possible use out of my favourite models.

Its cool sometimes its just necessary to repeat important info.

I look forward to seeing this actually, pre-Heresy Dark Guard are cool and Deathshroud are sexy in every meaning of the word .

I don't have a problem with Counts-as models and agree with it as long as the weapons are WYSIWYG. I have to do this for some of my models in my GK army and the inquisitors and their henchmen. I've seen a guy at a shop I use to game at who did up his army as pre-heresy World Eater and used them as Blood Angels. No one ever minded and it worked out well. In terms of using FW rules from the HH book: Betrayal wouldn't be too bad but, seeing how the equipment is different in some ways may be a little harder to pull of. As long as you'd play them as an army with an accepted codex and that fit the part for their appearance. Having not played the DA yet I would recommend waiting.
