I don't know if this is a stupid question, but I heard that ALL Libby's wear blue armour.

If this is so, why is that?

All codex adhering chapters have done so as laid down by Roboute Guilliman's Codex Astartes.
Unfortunately I do not know the motive (Never bothered to paint them blue so never cared

)

Most chapters librarians do wear blue for no other reason than Guliman saying so. That doesn't stop you painting it however the hell you want.

while it might be blasphemy to the purists, I never liked the idea of blue/red/white guys in my force, so I decided to go with blue/white/red accents for them;

I can't say that they are better or worse than doing it the traditional way, but I taken some liberties with my Salamanders and I like them.

Index Astartes is full of precedents validating your choice. Much more importantly, I think it looks so much better than 'eavy Metal's heavy handed approach to specialist marines.

My Death Watch Blood Raven Librarian has a mix of Blue but it is mostly his robes that are Blue. My Imperial Fist Librarian is very much a Codex adherent with the Blue Power Armour.

I think I'm going for the traditional DA green armour + blue shoulder pads + off-white cloak

Or whatever else that piques my fancy during the painting session... hehehe

About how I am doing it, so I concur

Only SM I play are Black Templars...which dont use any dirty psykers. But the other SM players at my FLGS play their libs in blue armor, but only the actual armor parts. The right shoulder pads is their chapter symbol in the normal colors and the left is the book shoulder. All their other fiddly bits are in chapter colors.

Just use your normal colours, and paint some parts blue, whether that's all of the armour apart from a shoulder pad, or all normal colour with a few blue pannels, then it should look like a librarian.

Honestly, for a beginner painter like me, its rather intimidating to paint a mini so elaborate like a Libby.... I've primed it, but I keep looking at it, planning and planning..

I know the feeling. As another rookie painter I still haven't touched my Necron Overlord or named HQ characters

On topic: I concur with the opinion of only painting bits of the armor with the codex color code. Looks much better than a single blue / red guy in the middle an army of a completely different colour.

Librarians are blue for the same reason that apothacaries are white and tech marines are red. To show them up on the battlefield. It can be as much as a blue helmet with a blue shoulder pad to an entire blue

Look at 2nd world war films, the medic corp wear a red cross on their helmets to show them up as such.
