I have been playing with resin casting for a few months now and recently moved into a home with a garage. Previously I was casting in my basement which felt like a bad idea to do on a weekly basis. So currently I am attempting to make molds and cast in an unheated garage during a Michigan winter using resin and silicone. Has anyone had experience with using silicone or resin in the cold? Does it negatively effect the usefulness of the products? I have made one mold and it took it about three days to harden, is this because of cold or because the batch of silicone I received is going bad?
I use moldstar 300 and smooth cast 300.

2 Part resins and rubbers set with heat (generated by a chemical reaction).

If it is too cold - there may not be enough heat generated in order to properly cure. If you are lucky - you may end up with just a longer demold time. If you are not lucky - the chemical reaction will complete before the resin has cured at all and you will have a ruined casting attempt.

So...do not attempt to cast (or make molds) when it is cold. Most of them will actually give you a temperature that you should not attempt to use them below.
